FINAL NOTICE!

Yes, I realize this is short notice but here it is anyway. Anyone wanting to make a little something in the next 6 to 8 weeks and wanting to participate in the fabric swap, you have until this evening to pm me your name and mailing address. After that...it's TOO LATE (seriously scary music playing in background).

Pm. Tonight. Do it.

New Here

hey, guys and gals. I would love to be in on this neat idea of Uno's but I am leaving next week for a month long holiday so will have no time. Great idea though, Uno. I will look when I get back to see the projects.

CRAFTERS....watch your private mail boxes, sending out mail buddies now!

(Later)
It is 7:22 my time and 4 of you should have pms in your mail boxes with a buddy to mail to. This does not tell you who you will receive from and I encourage each sender to add a little note with their fabric selection, just to say hi and offer encouragement. Now...to my stash, hmm, what piece can I mail off to my fabric buddy?

A fat quarter is just a quarter meter in a square shape... 20 inches by 20 inches aprox. No worries! It won't matter for this fun little swap. Just as long as you send a piece of fabric that is around 1/4 - 1/2 meter. Very Happy

I have never made fat quarters myself, I only buy them once in a while at the fabric shop. I rip fabric when I want to work with a smaller piece on my cutting matt. I only just started using fat quarters but like I said, I never make my own, I just start cutting whatever size fabric I have. Laughing

I am no expert, that's for sure!!

RIP!!! AAAGGGHHH!!

There shall be no ripping. Thou shalt not rippeth. Go forth and rip no more. I say unto thee, merrily, merrily, put thine ripping ways behind thee. Amen.

IF fabric is not woven straight and it rips along the slanted weave, you can lose a lot of fabric trying to square up your cuts. I realize that that sentence made NO SENSE to most people but trust me, I know what I am talking about. At least I pretend to. Only rip fabric that you are sure is going to rip straight and not at an angle from selvage to selvage. Too much loss. If you knoww what I mean. With small pieces it's easy to cut anyway.

NOTE ABOUT FAT QUARTERS If you walk into a quilt/fabric store and see all these piles of folded, handkerchief sized fabrics (slightly larger) those are fat quarters. SOme people are addicted to these little slivers of fabric, think of a slice of pizza instead of the whole pizza.

I have helped local fabric store fold TONS of fat quarters and they are all CUT not ripped. Ripping creates a frazzled edge that is sometimes puckered and ripply. It adds bulk to the final folded product. These folded fat quarters are stuffed into little shelves so to reduce bulk they are cut, not ripped, ensuring flatter fat quartes when folded. Did you know there is a very specific way to fold a fat quarter? Ah, the valuable knowledge stored inside my noodle!

Don't listen to uno, rip away!...hee hee

Don't trim the edges - it will be just fine Miry.

I only rip fabric that is huge, like over a few meters. Just to get an easier size to work with on my cutting mat. But, yes I am a ripper. I would never rip small pieces though, like uno says, on some occasions you get a huge amount of waste that way.
Its all good Miry...whatever you send will be just fine!!

Well fabric swappers? What's going on? I sent my fabric off in the mail last week and bought myself a quilt magazine, something I rarely do. But this was a special occasion and I needed an inspirational tweak for when my fabric arrives.

I am putting the binding on a quilt right now that I started for my daughter in 2005. It was one of those quilts that started out with great hope then crashed with an 'ugh'. I have a hard time finishing ugly quilts and I have more than my share of stinkers! This has been picked apart and reassembled at least three times. It is not my favorite and I am not overly pleased with it. At all.

What are you crafters revving up to make? I don't know about you, but I'm excited!

I’m hyped too! My fabric goes in the mail tomorrow and I’ll be counting down the days until mine arrives! bounce

Well, I’m 99% sure I’m going to make a hen saddle. With wing protectors if I get real ambitious. lol I have a few saddles (made for me by miry) and will be attempting to follow them for my pattern. I have the elastic already, and even a few button snaps that should work for attaching the straps. Though I think some sort of tool may be needed to fasten the snaps onto the elastic? Hmm. I will have to look into that more...

My fabric mailed Monday so get excited somebody....
I figure I can't visualize my project until I see my materal...something like trying to name a child before you see it! (We always figured we had to look at the kid first to see if what names "fit" them!)

I finally got that quilt finished tonight! Wahooo, only 7 years in the making. I post it here to servew as inspirtion or a cautionary tale, you decide. I am also going to post two pillowcases I made for Christmas, the flowered one (I made two) for my daughter, she loved them. And the bright, electric one for a very special friend and he likes his too!

Now to see if I got this picture posting thing worked out right...

Oh she's crazy alright - that's not in question. Twisted Evil

I noticed in the bigger picture of the quilt that you put on FB that the stitching (I don't know the term for the fun stitching done with the machine) has a lot of Hearts incorporated in it. I love that!! Your daughter will be wrapped up in your love in so many ways every time she cuddles up to that quilt. I really love it.

I am also very drawn to the flowered pillow case. I'm not sure how my sleep would be with my head in that electric forest of the other one. Wink

Sorry - off topic, not about the fabric swap, which I am not part of. Embarassed
