Oh this winter is just going on forever! Time for a crafty project, but what?

Yes I have a stash full of fabric, but I've looked at it for years now and frankly, I am a little uninspired. What I need is a little something new and unexpected to tweak my creative juices. What I need is a small project to do between now and April, when we all get busy again.

Are you a quilter, sew-er, crafter? DO you have a stash of fabric and have one piece that is pretty but...you just haven't found a place to use it? Do you think it had lovely colours or patterns but it just isn't 'you'? I am having a crazy thought!

I propose a FABRIC SWAP! It works as follows:

1) you pm or email me your name and mailing address. This means that you have fabric you want to send to someone and would like to receive fabric as well. I will fix everyone up with a place to send (which means you will also receive)

2) you have 100% cotton fabric, no smaller than a fat quarter and no bigger than a half metre that you will put in an envelope and mail off promptly and in good faith.

3) when you receive your fabric you will POST A PICTURE of the fabric and then, when your project is complete (or mostly complete) you will POST A PICTURE of what you have made.

NOthing big here folks. Placemat...table topper for your kitchen table ....doll quilt...potholder...apron...cushion cover....cover for your heating pad, hot water bottle or magicbag....totebag.....small wall hanging....pillowcase.....the sky is the limit.

For our gentlemem members, if you are not a crafter yourself but have a partner who is, you may enter on their behalf, as long as they will send out fabric and share pics of their projects. SO this is incentive to make a little something and get it done so we all can see what a talented bunch we are! Are you in? Let me know!

PS Just to be clear, you are free to use other fabrics to complete your project too (obviously), but your surprise fabric must be incorporated somewhere into your fabulous creation.

This is exciting. I am not crafty at all, but I am always impressed with what others can do. I am looking forward to the before and after pictures!

If I mail you an old, tattered, concert shirt from the 70's (100% cotton of course, to follow the rules) will I receive a nice new not so outdated and moth-eaten 100% cotton shirt in return? I could sew up a rip or tear, to follow the "I sewed it" theme.

Aside from some members who want to send out laundry...which this is NOT about...we need more crafters. Miry, send me a pm with your mailing info. I will make alist and hope it ends up with more names than just you and me, but even if it does, hey, I'm game for a fabric swap!

This is a bit off topic but not really, as most of you know I do some awesome estate sales and I get some very vintage material, some back to the 1800s, if anyone is interested I would love to give some away.

Pops, you might find some takers here on this site.

Often local quilt guilds do quilt drives to raise funds for different charities. Here they make quilts to give to people in Hospice House living out the last days of their lives, or make quilts for kids undergoing long term medical procedures in hospitals. Your nearest Chamber of Commerce should be able to tell you of the nearest quilt guild and you might find someone there who would be very grateful of such a donation and put it to good use.

If you come across something you feel is especially old, small town museums are always on the lookout for interesting finds. I have taken various treasures that serve a greater purpose to the local museum. Especially if your fabric is associated with a person who has been a long time in a community. Founding family? Fabric perhaps brought over from the 'old country'?

I think old fabrics are treasures and if you have access to good cottons or brocades, there are many places that would be thrilled with such a find.

No laundry allowed now? Dang it! Thought I'd finally found a way to be rid of hubby's old Rush tour shirt. I always thought it'd make a pretty hanky...even has cute bunnies! albino

On a serious note, I'd love to be in on this IF I had one iota of sewing ability, which I do not. Embarassed

If I thought I would have time to sew something other than what I need for baby, which cotton is not good for, I would be in, but it seems that my sewing time will be few and far between for the next while. Hope you find enough sewers to do this!! I look forward to seeing what everyone makes!

I don't know miry...making a pot holder looks beyond me right now. Suspect

But if you guys need another person to even up the numbers, I guess I could attempt to make something. At least it should be good for a laugh... Laughing
