I have not gotten an egg basket yet (I'm getting chicks in June so I have some time) but I was wondering what everyone else has. My SIL is getting my MIL's awesome wire basket that she used so I am now in the abstract phase of egg basket deciding.

Oh that is easy peasy. Go to a second hand store and get a wicker basket. I bought a bunch of them for .25 cents each, they had a bin of them, all sorts of sizes, shapes. I am kind of weird when it comes to collecting eggs. In my egg baskets I keep facecloths. Different coloured face cloths. When I am not getting very many eggs between breeds here, I gather eggs and put them in appropriately coloured face cloths. Or layer them, with cloth colours inbetween. Soon I will have to have two different egg baskets though, as the hens will be increasing laying even more. But ya, I just use deep wicker baskets. Easy peasy. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

I use whatever cheap plastic bowls (mixing bowl size) I can find at the dollar store. But I like things with rounded bottoms. Flat bottoms allow a few eggs to roll around as you walk back to the hous, and they whack into each other and crack. A rounded bottom leads to eggs that nestle together, do not roll and thus do not crack.

Cynthia's wicker baskets would also cut down on rolling because the bottom is slightly bumpy, and not dead flat. Of course if you have a steady hand and flat land between you and the house and your dog doesn't walk beside you leaping up and down like a lunatic, go ahead and go for a flat bottomed carrier.

I just go straight to old egg cartons. Have a stack in the chicken house and grab one and go. People give me stacks of their old ones - in fact I sometimes have to say "no more".

Nice Avatar!! Hello hello!

I got some of those collapsible buckets from the dollar store and they work great !! I put straw in the bottom
and fill them up. Can collapse for compact storage. These buckets will haul dry and wet....!!!!

These baskets are really cute. They would get stolen in no time by the kids though LOL. The picture is because my SIL had 3D glasses at her house and I took a dorky picture.

Not just quilting! I also knit, crochet, and sew. I used to paint as well but not so interested in that so much.

I agree with uno round bottom so they don't bumper cars on the trip into the house. I found big plastic colanders at the dollar store and they work great plus when kids break or lose them it's no biggy Very Happy

Yeah... same.

More than once I've had a paniced moment, bull bounding towards me, unable to stop (or unwilling). "No! No no! N..n..no!" I say, backing up. Then he rubs his head against my side and crunch!
