Hello!

Looking for Coronation Sussex in the Lower Mainland or surrounding areas. Would like to add a couple more hens to my little flock if possible, and find them a rooster!

Thanks in advance!

Meg

You could try Greendale Heritage farms in Chilliwack. She used to breed cornation sussex. Hope you can find what you are looking for. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

Oh for sure, Jonny, but seems like Meg might live in the Fraser Valley (southwest coast of BC), so might want the birds closer. Raven Crest, you should go into your profile and edit it to indicate where you live, it helps with people helping with understandings. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

Thanks Cynthia!

I checked out Greendale, she has sussex but they are Silver. I'm well, anal (haha), I like everything to match. I really like the colour of the Coronation birds. So I will continue my search.

Schipperkesue thanks for the suggestion, and I have updated my profile for better understanding. Perhaps if I'm still looking in the summer I will make a trip out there, have some friends I'd like to visit.

Thanks!

Gee those coronation Sussex were everywhere a couple years ago. Now I can't think of anyone with them. Good luck, gonna keep my eyes and ears open.

Katt, is there something wrong with them that nobody wanted to deal with? or did everyone just move on to fancier birds? I think they're really pretty and so far have been easy keepers ...

Thanks authentic I'll look into them! Smile

It happens with many breeds, they are real popular for a while and everybody wants them and they get mass produced and then people get bored with them and move on to the next breed. Right now it seems Orpingtons are the big thing. The Coronation Sussex are out there, you may just have to look a bit harder then you had to a few years ago.

Nail on the head, Mads. When I first got serious with chickens the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes seemed to be all the rage. Now only a few dedicated people seem to have them.

I'm hoping to get BLRW this week actually! I'm totally stoked!

Mads is pretty right on, they were the rage, now only the people who really liked them kept them.

That being said, I'm also hoping to try my hand at Bielefelders. They're kind of "in" right now.

A nice BLRW is stunning, isn't it, Katt?

But back to Sussex. Jonny is cutting back on his birds this spring so he may have some quality birds for a serious breeder.

I am wondering why Greendale is calling the sussex silver. I need to check that out, perhaps she has made a new variety and is calling them silver. I know she had the most beautiful coronation sussex. I believe that is where Jonny got his cornation sussex breeders from, could be wrong, but memory sometimes reveals things, sometimes reveals things that are not true Smile . Have a most beautiful day, CynthiaM.

Silver Sussex is just another colour of Sussex. They are black and silver, in a birchen pattern. Really attractive!

The ones Greendale has are the black with white/laced/dunno what you call it on the neck, kind of like a reverse of the light sussex. Just a different colour.

I looked up the BLRW you guys are talking about and wow! They are pretty. I've never been one for fads and crazes though (try following fashion in the equestrian world ...). For now I'm just going to stick with my pretty coronations. I'm looking forward to meeting with Phoenix Farms in April with some new chicks. I may get in touch with Jonny as well.

Thanks for your help so far guys! Smile

So Phoenix Farms has gone off the radar ... She ended up not having enough chicks hatch to sell me any in April. Anyone else have any suggestions? I check on Craigslist regularly as many of the local farms post there, but no one seems to have Coronations any more ...
