I'm sorry Uno Smile My post was only to further support exactly what you had been saying--- that those types of phone calls from those types of people, they just truly dont understand what it means to scrape by. that they think the whole world should give them everything-- that they are "entitled" to it even!

I honestly agree that a pol pullet price is way to low given the return that the chicken can give you potentially~~ especially if the person is looking at a breeding hen for hatching eggs later on! and the auction prices! I cried for the people selling at some of the auctions (and cringed at what some people were paying, grossly overpriced for some chickens that made me question their condition). Heck I have even had my own fair share of those calls. when I had to get rid of most of my livestock to cover medical costs, I swore after what I went through I would never sell another animal again. Either it gets butchered for our own use, or I will use it for coyote bait~~ some of the people I had to deal with were just... unspeakable. there are no words!

I love to read your posts, always, because you can put into words so much better than I ever could! maybe I should go back to my little corner and read silently, nodding my head in agreement What a Face

Missed it. Haven't gotten these calls, mind you, but I'm sure I will be soon.

I just have to say ~~~ I am truly thankful and grateful everyday that I go out and collect my eggs because an incredible kind soul gave me six laying ISA's because she was getting way too many eggs for her own family to eat! so basically she gave me just under half her flock, and it brought me to tears--- those six hens will lay enough to feed both my girls a day if I need them to... it was an incredibly kind gift and one that I do bless each egg for!

I think that some people need to be much more appreciative of where their food comes from, and to be grateful of whatever they can get because you never know what lays around the corner for you!!

(hahah lays... okay that was a horrible unintentional pun! I will go back to lurking know!!)

Lanaire! How nice to hear your comments! I miss you! Don't be such a stranger, you always have a great perspective!

I don't have problems with POL chickens. Either I keep them, gift them to a well deserving person, or sell them for what they are worth to me. They are worth at least $25 but more if they are special in any way like pedigree, egg color, beauty, (lets face it, the pretty ones are worth more!). Now I don't advertise my chickens so I never get the lowballers. Most of my sales are word of mouth or at poultry sales and shows. If people don't like my price I will keep the chicken. After all, it is my chicken and worth what I say it is if I am willing to keep it. I will just eat a few more eggs. It is when we are pressured to liquidate we sell at prices that we regret and resent. No one can make you sell anything for less than you want to accept.

I agree with Sue.

Speaking of starving chickens... I gave my cousin a small flock of hens. She was so happy to have them. Her son loved them. He was the one who fed them and collected the eggs. Then she left her hubby. I asked her if I should go pick up the chickens. She said they were fine with her ex and not to worry. A few weeks later I asked my mom what happened to the chickens and she told me he had let them starve to death. I was SO mad! They got back together after a year or so. Will never give away hens again...
