I am heading to Castlegar next weekend and was wondering what the road from Revelstoke to Caslegar is like? It would be hwy 23 then continuing south on hwy 6.

Also, it looks like I need to cross Galena bay. Is that a ferry or a bridge?

What kind and condition of road am I looking at?

It's a beautiful drive Sue. All paved roads and it's a ferry that crosses Galena Bay. There is no charge for the ferry and it's about a 20 minute crossing.

Google 'Galena Bay ferry schedule' so you know what times it leaves.

Also, Revelstoke is a really nice town.

What are you doing in this neck of the woods? We live just outside of Nelson, close to Castlegar.

There is a dog show next week in Caslegar and I am coming down for it! I worry about running into trouble and missing the ferry on the way there. Maybe it would be nice for a return route?

They do have an extra ferry running in the summer and it says so on the schedule AND just plan to catch the ferry that is scheduled to leave two sailings before you HAVE to and you'll have plenty of time.

You might enjoy it more on the way home but it is so beautiful either way. Google
Map it from Revelstoke to Galena Bay Ferry and give that allowed time as it always says way more time than it really takes.

If you are in a hurry I'd go the 93/95 route to Cranbrook and take hiway 3 to Caslegar. The Galena ferry has been a bottleneck most weekends this summer. The Revelstoke/Galena Bay is a nice drive and was a route we planned on taking this summer.

If you want to make the drive really nice then take highway 22 south of calgary it is amazing and stop in longview for great beef jerky...then on to 3 thru the crowsnest..then go the other way back...you pass nakusp and they have some nice hotsprings or Halcyon if you like more modern ones...and you can relax after your big weekend...wow now I want to go on a road trip

I usually do the Cranbrook Route. It is faster. I am leaving Thursday and the show is Friday morning so I don't want to take the chane of missing a ferry. It is probably the better choice.

I will call my driving partner today to see if she is still up to the trip. She has some life circumstaces that may stand ithe way. Felix, if we are there we would love to watch Justice! You go have a romantic date with your honey.
