I have ducklings hatched from the neighbor's ducks. Do they look like any breed you have seen? They were purchased at the Innisfail auction. They are large and lay a very large greenish egg. The babies look like little Rouen babies with the exception of two which are black.

What do you think?

They look just like my rouens. They also lay large light green eggs. Good luck with the ducklings!

Thanks for your input. They look nothing like my Rouens which are smaller, darker and have a more horizontal body shape. Neither my Rouens nor these look like anything in the standard of perfection. The closest to a breed I have seen is the Appleyard, but they are much lighter.

i agree with rouen, but only production rouen, as the purebred have a big keel and are much longer and level to the ground.

Sue, they are commercial or hatchery Rouens. They could have anything mixed in with them. If some of the ducklings are black they probably have Cayuga in them. Looking at the females bills colors from your pictures they are not true. They are only about half the size of exhibition Rouens.

Don't forget that all ducks carry the genes for wild type colouration. To be honest, I would have an easier time believing these were wild-type coloured saxony or appleyard than rouen. Other than plumage colour, I don't see anything that resembles a rouen here. This bill colour matches here as well.

Basically, I think you`re friend just has some nice "barnyard" ducks, wouldn't give them a breed name. Beautiful, healthy looking birds though.

Well, they are a big, healthy duck that produces a great egg so my friend is happy. She will have ducks and eggs to eat and lots of them. I will sell my ducklings as such. Thanks for all the great input, all you ducky experts!

Beautiful beauties, whatever they are. Loved the last picture, looks like she is beakin' off at ya, smiling. I have seen these cool pictures of ducks beakin' off at one thing or the other. I remember someone put a picture of a drake and a duck in the water and the duck was beakin' off at the drake, it looked like he was in holy crap for something he did, it was just darn cool. Love duck pictures. Have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

So my neighbor does not want her ducklings! I hatched them for her but her daughter has decided she is too busy to raise ducklings. Would anyone like to buy some duckings of no fixed breed that will grow into large bodied ducks that lay very large green eggs? I think $100 for the bunch of 10 would be fair. I am heading to Cold lake this weekend and could deliver. My husband drives to Nisku each day as well.

If I can find a way to get them down here to Bowden with my farming schedule, I would take all those beauties off of you for that price.
