Just starting to consider this - I'd like a few more goslings.

Any advice/interest in joining in??

There is only one hitch to ordering from Holderread's - He won't give you a firm ship date. Only confirms the shipment when it leaves his farm. He'll give you several possible dates - i.e. May 10 or 11 or June 7 or 8 or June 14 or 15. Makes it really difficult for those of us that have quite a distance to travel to the border US Post Office. You might get the call late in the afternoon on the day of shipment and have to be at the Post Office first thing the next morning.

I ordered ducklings from him last year. I got the call from the US Post Office that the shipment had arrived at 4:30 AM following advice the shipment had left Holderread's the afternoon previous. To get to Blaine, WA from Denman Island involves 2 ferries and about 5 hours travel. I picked up the ducklings, cleared customs and was home by 7 PM.

Great point! Thank you! It's a 9 hour drive to the border if there aren't any avalanche closures or long lines ups at the border. You did well making it as quickly as you did!

I have a line on someone who is going to place an order and lives closer to the border - I may join them.

Avalanches in May / June?!!

I'd say your best plan is to find somebody close to the border willing to pick them up and give them water. Biggest issue with shipped baby birds is that they seem to get quite dehyrdated.

No, probably not that time of year. Then it's construction closures in the canyons. But yes, finding someone to go in with who lives closer to the border would be the way.

I've thought it over and believe in the long run it will be more trouble than it's worth unless I can find someone closer to the border whose order I can join. May just try getting toulouse from Performance.

I've ordered from Holderreads twice and can't say enough good things about the quality of their genepools. I would like to bring another breed in this year and would welcome the opportunity to share an order with another. I don't have a passport and therefore another will have to drive down to the US post office to pick them up.
