I have a couple hundred walla walla started and they came up just fine. I did notice though, that where I bought seed makes a huge difference. The seeds from Stokes (the same place the greenhouse gets their seeds) always germinated fine. Anything I have bought in a store has done poor to acceptable, at best. I have a packet of candy onions downstairs. I will see if I can get them to germinate. If I do, Jean and I will have to take a road trip...

I started some heirloom Australian's and they came up with no problems. I didn't start any Candy onions so not sure about them.

Onion seed doesn't stay viable for long, might be old seed even if you just bought them

I started 3 more kinds of onions, including the candy. I will let you know how it goes. My walla wallas and my leeks are doing great so far. I have cut them back 4 times already.

Onions tend to germinate better when it is slightly cool.
Make sure they are on the top of the soil with a light covering of vermiculite.
And make sure they don't dry out when starting.
Mist a few times a day.

Thank you Kyle, should have gone to you right away.
Now the walla walla onions have all germinated, so will see what I can get from these Candy seeds.
