I finished bathing yesterday... Got 8 done more or less by myself.
Last night they were all looking good and pretty.

Today I went to check on everyone and every last one of them has decided to Dustbath in their fresh wood shavings, so all my clean black hens are covered in saw dust and shavings... Thank goodness it's not poop.

Silly Chickens!

my BIGGEST bathing problem bird i have to rebath his tail.... its all stringy Embarassed I rinsed him out after shampoo for like 5 minutes in running water then vingear water for a while too. hes so BIG i wanted to make sure I got everything. I thought I did? Obviously not unless theres another cause for stringy tail feathers. The rest of him is perfect. IT didnt help me that he sat down to dry (ended up blow drying his belly cause he sat on it for 3 hours) and hasnt preend yet. Im waiting a few hours see if he preens himself. Hes not really one to care for his feathers though Rolling Eyes argh lol

HAHAHAHA now hes crowing in my bathroom. All my cats are like Shocked

Color him green and give him big brown eyebrows... cause we all know chickens have eyebrows... and call him Oscar the Grouch!

LOL

So to bring my thread alive again I had a rather fun time washing only two chickens, this goes back the other day.

My Blue Orp hen was very well behaved... but the rather frantic Coronation Sussex, Whom had motor oil on her back from wandering under an old truck on our porperty back in the fall.
I managed to clean her up as most of the oil had faded, it wasn't much just a few small smudges. I tried cleaning it when it happened but no luck.

Well today, I decided to do a bum check on the gals to make sure they were tidy, and the darn Coronation Escaped on me.... into my garage and started flapping around the Garage and some how managed to get grease on her AGAIN!!!!! She squeezed in behind my tool box so I suspect it came from that.
Man keeping a white bird clean is tricky.

I used Dawn, green apple scent and a wash cloth to tackle the oily mess, it worked rather well!!!

I just finished washing her, again and did the best I could to get her clean enough to show, but most important for her own health.

Just thought I would share that.

See you at the show tomorrow~~~

Man I bathed four roosters a few weeks ago and I was spent. I can't imagine doing that again for awhile. But Johnny, I've been told Sunlight Dish Detergent is great for getting grease out for future reference.
