egg colour update

Well, I think all 3 of my winter hardy, dark egg layer project birds are laying now. I thought some of you may be interested in the colour of the eggs I am getting from these pullets. I am pretty happy with them.

I sure like the shape and type of these pullets. They are a little tighter feathered, which I like and hope I am able to keep.

Back to a Splash Marans cockerel in the spring to get darker eggs and to add blue, then just stabilising the type, comb and colour I want after that. In a couple of years I will have winter hardy, dark layers available in black and blue I hope!

Just remembered I have an update photo of one of the girls. This one doesn't have as much red in the throat as the other two.

Well, I was impressed with the egg photos, and then I scrolled down and saw the hen photos -- wow! I really like her Your hard work is paying off. Well done!

The two that my friend got from you started laying this week too! Pretty little dark brown eggs!

(I, on the other hand, have been buying eggs and giving the girls a pep talk - ;-) - hope this moulting stuff is done with soon!)

Uno, yours shouldn't be far away from laying then.
Ya, moulting sucks!!! I have enough youngsters I am not noticing it much though.

Congratulations! The "Coopslave Hardy Dark Layer" is a success. And so beautiful too.
