So my brooder is in the family room area
where my African Grey is.
She now imitates the churping chicks but
at a much higher volume.
Quite intertaining listening to her churp
the call the dog then churp call a cat then
talk like me etc etc.

Perfect! My Aunt's African Grey could ring like the telephone, answer like my aunt, fool the cat by calling it like my aunt, imitate the doorbell, the kettle whistling, the toilet flushing, the typewriter typing and most mysteriously a long drawn out belch. Did he learn that from my so elegant Aunt???

Brilliant birds.

My daughter just received a 'Most Amazing Animal Stories' magazine as a gift for birthday. In it is a story about an African grey that was 31 when he died. Had a vocab of over 100. The night he died, the last thing he said to his person friend and scientist that worked with him as he was put away for the night was, "Be good. See you tomorrow. I love you. " Amazing.

35 is young for a grey they can live for up to 75 years
They have the mentality of a five year old child and
can put things into context. Ours is very good. She
had momma cat and me running around the house looking
for the kitten we thought was loose. Until we caught
her red handed meowing. They can build up a large quantity
of words.

They seem to be able to understand emotion too, so seem to learn words said in passion (curses mostly) fastest.
