So..you guys stole my post, so am starting a new one...no offence taken btw

The rooster that went out back got beaten up pretty badly, and i returned him to the shed from whence he had come..... His head is hanging down almost touching the ground, and although yesterday he was bleeding from his comb & wattles, today he is no longer bleeding.  I have seen him eat and drink...but man does he look down.  He will stand up, and shake his head, then his little head slowly falls again down pretty low.  I brought him inside where at least he is warm, and quiet....
not sure if there is something else i should be looking to do for the poor fella
Or if'n he is just gonna die
....

Yup. That's what happens when roosters fight. Too bad.

I think keeping him warm and away from the others is all you can do at this point. Poor guy

Give him a day or two. I had two roosters that had got into a horrid fight, back on the coast. The beat up one was very beat up and he hung his head low for a couple of days. Huge loss of blood. I think that it takes a bit for the bird to recover, loss of blood can cause awful weakness. See what happens. I hope it all works well for the bird. Good luck. Keep us posted. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

Its hard having to realise you just got your butt handed to you, along with blood loss. In nature that's how they learn. He's gonna feel sorry for himself for a day or two then should start getting better.

Today mr crow is doing just that...crowing and crowing. He is mostly upright...and then will lay stretched out in the pen...I think he will be fine....or not...who knows with chickens?

Embarassed I have had two roosters recovering in my house this winter, one got his butt kicked recently, the other had other health issues that threatened him due to getting his butt kicked earlier in the year.
Now both lounge away the hours in the warmth, living on treats, and reliably wake me up at 5:00 each morning. I think they are just  reminding  me to go to work so I can pay the heat bill and buy them feed. They are a remarkably resistant gender given a chance. I find the girls don't bounce back so easily. I am glad your boy is recovering. Very Happy
On an aside, both roosters I am nursing back had their bills broken in a fight. If your rooster had his beak broke in the fight you may want to watch to make sure it grows back properly and does not impede his eating.

I might have to send over my four Coopers hybrid hens to be mated with your Marans rooster, to keep on with Coopslave's project here, or it might just make the weirdest birds Smile . Not to keep, just for breeding Smile . They lay a very dark brown egg. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.
