felting  -  wanna learn too.  I am going to knit some of those oversized slippers for my husband, that you felt in the washing machine.  Just got to find the wool for it.  might have to try some homespun.  if they are a success I'll post a picture.

how about this:

bigrock wrote:new house, all the roosts are the same height, all 2X4 true ones..on the 4" flat and most of the birds prefer to spend the night underneath the roosts, and some unfortunate enough to get shat upon by those above.  We are planning on having poop boards, but haven't got that far yet in our house...
so..any suggestions?  i would say there are 1/3 above and 2/3 below..and there are lots of empty roost space
lots of older birds are below, buffs...and i wondered if roosts were too high..but they are 30" off the floor..at least close to that height anyways
honestly...have no idea

bigrock wrote:Thanks Uno..i have husband home this weekend and i will nab him for chicken house projects.  Will add a lower rung to see if that helps...
So did you and your husband work on the coop over the weekend? Did you make a lower rung, use 5 gallon buckets on the floor or make a ramp? Are more birds on the roost now?

Did you you make a poop board or poop hammock?

Husband had to work all weekend.. Sad one of his workmates who was supposed to work was sick...
his next days off. I did reposition a stool though in front of the roosts...and i see chickens using it...but still on the floor..
will try the enhancements before i start picking them all up at night...thats 60 odd birds

Here's my poop tray. I clean it with a kitty litter scoop. Works great! I have a ramp for the wimpier birds.

Nope, I didn't! At least not before I took this photo. I did sweep down the walls of the Partridge Chantecler pen today.

Ok...hubby moved the roosts up; all of them, so they are about a foot above the one below ,...total of three with a step stool at the bottom. All the chickens are off the floor!
and of course, then it comes. He says, "that's what I wanted to do in the first place".......yup...the i told you so..
anyways...happy now
