I have 1 really nice pair of Barred Rock L.F for sale. They are about 16 weeks old now and come from very good lines. Look like they are going to have lots of size and the barring is good. Some of the best exhibition quality barred's that I have seen around these parts in quite a bit and at 16-17 weeks weeks the pullets have just satarted to lay.I can e-mail pics. of the cockerels as I am not computer savvy enough to post them. I would like 75.00 for the pair. E-mailing is always better or you can PM me

Miry Creek if you are willing to wait till November I have a special pair for you!!

How often do you get your hands on these Heather? I have been searching for some show quality BRs. Was worried I was going to have to bring in eggs from who knows where? They have nice ones in the UK. Hard to find ones with proper type! Theyre always so small!

Doublesr- I bought in a small number from Modern17 when I was getting a single bird of a different breed from him. When I brought them in I had no intention of keeping them but thought I would help people out at this end of the country, by keeping them and culling though them as well as putting pairs together that I think would work together. So after these are gone that's it. The males are aready showing good size and type. and I have culled out the one showing the least promise. I am quite frankly very excited by them but I have no desire to have another L.F breed due to room but if I thought I had the room these would not be leaving my place. I will ask someone Iknow who has pictures of the boys if she would mine posting them.

I will try to get pictures of the females soon. I only have 3 pairs but would like to get down to just one in the near future as I want to ensure there is no crowding. The pictures really don't do them justice and it was wonderful of Modern 17 Troy Laroche to send some this way along with a lone Modern Cock bird that I got from him. My sole aim is to try and allow people access to birds of better quality whenever possible. I think I am asking a fair price as they are growing and eat like horses compared to my Leghorns. As I look at the females I see 2 which have great type and nice broad backs and 1 that I think may be above average and one that is average but even the average one is better than most production stock. Jayme let me know if your interested and we will have to see about getting them to you.

It is nice to be here too Coopslave a kinder, gentler forum. Thanks Jayme for posting the pictures for me

Yes if we can find a way to get them to Kelly or even out towards Calgary I would love a nice pair Heather. I know I can always get stock from Miry down the road but would be nice to have some of my own. Very Happy
If you get pictures of the hens please do send them to me I dont mind posting them at all.

After the puppy pictures Coopslave just posted we might have to make a trip out that way...soon....

I know what you mean, I have been thinking about those puppies as we are looking for a dog as we speak, but have not made the big leap yet. Puppies are work and I have 17 ducklings giving me enough poop right now.
It would be better for each of you to start with your own as, though the blood will be the same you will each keep birds for slightly different qualities, so you will be able to trade birds and not have to worry about bringing in new blood for several years if at all.

Wow, those birds are beautiful! BR's are one of the breeds I'm most interested in. Smile

And I'd definitely be interested in buying hatching eggs from those beauties offspring in the near future. (hint, hint Jayme and Irene. geek )

I would like to add my comment about these BR's. They are very good quality and come from very good stock and they would be an instant success where ever shown. If I didn't have my Wyandotte's I would take them. Don't hesitate long on them because opportunity like this does not come along very often. Hopefully whoever buys them will be showing them.

I hatched out some of troy modern 17s eggs anot a month ago. They have a good growth rate and are very meaty looking birds with excellent barring. I will have extra Roos available or possibly pairs

Rico I spent sometime staring at them today and the pictures really are poor and don't do them justice. I think the key here is I didn't get more than I could house and they have not been stressed by overcrowding. If I didn't already have 2 large fowl breeds the best of these would not leave here and I hope that the people that get them do them justice by getting them out to a show and breeding them true to their line and not crossing production line birds into them as well as being more interested in growing some out and selling less eggs and eating the ones who don't pan out. They were not all good and I have culled a male and female out. Take time to study that standard and if you go to buy one of the same breed send pictures to Rico or I and we will tell you if they are worth it, espically if the birds are coming from someone who does not know exhibition birds. It has taken generations of work to get them this good again but it will only take 1 or 2 generations to ruin them. They are not perfect as I see things I would like to see better as maybe the number of spikes in one or two of the males and maybe backs a bit longer etc. but that's what breeding is all about, trying for that perfect bird but never quite getting there.

Heather.

Heather Hayes Wrote: I took some very bad pictures of the pullets yesterday. They are looking good with pretty good type for a barred rock and all have broad backs with good length, good leg color even though they area not running outside. I see 3 that are good with 2 being really good and a fourth that is just average. Not sure what to do with her yet.

Thanks for posting Jayme. Not very good pictures but here are the girls just loafing around. Showing good size for thier age 17 weeks, not bad type for barred rocks, good broad backs with good length on 3 of them. Good yellow leg color considering they are not running outside. Feathering is typical barred rock type, not as tight as on the whites and a few couple black feather but not the end of the world.
Any comments good and bad gladly accepted as I could get more picky..

well I just wish i had them in my barn, so hard to be too picky!

Tricky to tell from photos because they are standing at different angles but they look very good to me Heather.

These are the best Barred Rocks I have seen in Canada since I have been back (I am sure there are others out there, I just have not seen any). I hope someone that wants to be serious about breeding them gets them. You can tell a lot of hard work has gone into them and it would be ashame to see it lost.
Thanks for taking the time to get the pictures, I always enjoy looking at nice birds!

Jayme, I'm in Kamloops the week of July 4th, and other times after that too, Armstrong isn't that far to loop down to on my way home if you want me to get them as far as Cranbrook.
