.... Is a turkey poult! My daughter and I were visiting Pops last week when my daughter saw a little Ridley Bronze turkey poult, the sonm of his Tom, who we just love. Well she carried it around the whole time we were there and Pops kindly gave him to her. (Thanks so much Pops!) Well, this little guy has stolen our hearts! He sleeps wrapped up in my hair if I am sitting down or on my daughter if she is watching TV. He is otherwise quite happy being toted around on a shoulder. What a personality Smile

Are you saying it's a male and you have him as a pet? If so, that's so great.

I sold my flock of 40 or so last year and only kept eggs from 6 different birds and then selected 4 hens and one tom, and now I have 5 turkeys that think they are people, very distinct personalities and they love every one

That's so great. I didn't know owning just a tom was an option. I could get into that. But not this year. Pet turkey(s) are definitely on my list though to have within the next couple of years.

So great to know as at this point I'm really just drawn to their personalities and beauty. Don't know if I want to get into more than one. But what do you do for them for companionship?

Right now, his main residence is with some chicks who are are older than him, but much smaller! As soon as Pops has 2 female poults ready, they will join him. I think everyone needs a few of "their own kind". Yes, they will be kept as pets. My only concern is that he doesn't decide our shoulders are the place to be when he's an adult Smile

My daughter raised 2 bronze poults up from day olds, they both ended up being boys. They were the "watch dogs" of our place. When a vehicle would come into the yard they would saunter down the hill to greet the people, of course it is amazing how many people are afraid of birds, never mind giant bronze turkeys. We eventually found a young female and had to sell one of the boys to another pet home, but "yolker" lived on as a huge pet and his mate "Bubbles" gradually tamed down as well.
Turkeys when raised up as pets do become very gentle, we have not yet had an aggressive tom.
Even at 50+ lbs Yolker loved to be snuggled by my daughter, she would dress him up and he would just stand there and strutt his stuff. LOL
