I just can't remember. Was it on this forum or elsewhere. Does anyone remember a topic where there was discussion about removing humidity in coops. Not that I have an issue here, but I want to help my Sister to make a large apparatus for removing humidity. In winter in our home we use dri-z-air, in small containers to remove humidity. I clearly recall talk about how someone uses I think it was salt, in a pail with holes in the bottom, set over another pail and the salt gathers water from the air and it drips into the pail below. It goes something like that, and I think it was rock salt used. I have tried searching for several words trying to bring up this thread, but have been unsuccessful. Does anyone remember this thread, if so, point me to it, or who made the thread. Maybe the author of the post will see this and say, "hey, that was me" and show me the post and how to make the apparatus to remove excess water from the air. Someone? Anyone? Even just give me hints and I could locate that thread perhaps. Have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

It was triple J, Cynthia. She even gave me some salt to try. I haven't yet. Sorry, Janet, been busy.

I believe the thread started Mid February, if that helps.

Charcoal briquettes work just as well as dri-zair and way cheaper too.

I use salt in my cigar humidor to keep a relative humidity of 70%. Maybe do an Internet search to for salt and humidor and it will give you the information you need

Would there be any detriment in hanging those bags that have silica in them with a bucket underneath, rigged so the birds cant get in?

Thanks, no Sue, I looked at Triple J facebook page. This was different. I think it was like two pails, one inside the other. The top one with holes in the bottom of it and it sat in the other pail. Maybe that is all it was, but I remember it kind of, two pails, not a strainer and a pail. I think the pail in a pail in more safe, would not tip over as easily. Someone must remember this thread....or maybe it was elsewhere. Think, think, come on, think.....have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

you can use whatever you want cynthia, the concept it to have the salt on top with holes so the humidity can drain down, i used a strainer/ just hid the bucket so the birds couldnt knock it over. it does seem to help a bit in the coops esp the one coop i have is bad!
