Is the medication in turkey starter the same as the medication chicken starter? I have a bag of medicated turkey starter that I want to use up and want to feed it to the chickens.
Thanks for your help.

It should say on the label what it is. I believe it is the same.

Turkey starter is just a higher protien but will not hurt the chicks. Higher protien for hertiage breed chicks is agood thing anyway

Thank for replying.
I will have to call the feed store, I have lost the label. Neutral

What percentage of protein would you say is the maximum?

Thanks again.

I do the same as appway. Hatch them together too.

I know many people who only use turkey on their chicks. The higher protien being the deciding factor.

I agree with what everyone has said. The coccidiosis medication is highly likely to be the same in both, turkey starter is just higher in protein. I prefer to feed turkey starter to both chicks and turkeys and generally will hatch my turkeys along with my chicks and then separate the two once the turkeys noticibly start to outgrow the chicks. If anything I think the chicks do better on the higher protein turkey starter.

I will also add that after the starter stage, I use unmedicated turkey grower for the Franken chicken fat chicks that we grow and then finish them on a 30%/70%, turkey finisher/grain mixture while the whole time on fresh grass pasture. Wink
