An egg in February! Aaaahhhhhhh!!!!

Silly duck! She's only got about 2 dozen eggs in her for the season! Don't waste them in February!!!!

OK, spill Higgens (and anyone else who might know)! Last year the ducklings were dieing around week 3 of incubation. I'm thinking micronutrients. What do I give them to put them in condition going into the breeding season?

(Just so you know; this is about ducks, I still know everything about chickens - see other thread)

Beer. Drink lots of beer. Micro nutrients come from micro breweries.

Oh wait. Was this about the duck? Sorry, don't know duck all about that. Very Happy

Maybe try a cork?

Seriously though, I feel the same way about my geese who insist on laying an egg in February in the muck.

WHY?

A cork to keep the eggs in, silly! I'll say.... champagne... bigger cork. But maybe just because I have geese.

Fowler's probably asleep by now anyway...

Question: What did Fowler say when he saw his duck upon her nest far too soon?

Answer: DUCK OFF!

Also 'Get the Duck outta here!' and "Flock off!'

So far, I've got to use a cork and to drink beer (cause then I guess I won't care about the February egg).

All good advice.

No ideas for conditioning food? Anyone tried fish feed in the past? I've seen blurbs about people giving it to chickens as a treat. Was wondering if it might be good for ducks.

Sounds like you are getting some sound advise Fowler...
I havent had much luck getting our calls to hatch either, I would suggest increasing their nutrients as well. I am sure at one time someone told me to feed them more greens and put them on a breeding ration?
My calls have been on a laying ration all winter, so will start adding in alfalfa flakes soon to their pens and also going to try BOSS this year and see if that helps at all?
Sorry I cant be of more help, I am lost on these little ducks too.
Maybe after the weekend Heather might be around for more advise on these little ducks.

I think you need a few silkies to hatch them. I have had great success with them to hatch our call eggs. Our ducks just get some mixed grains (barley/oats) and some corn once in a while. They are outside so they get some grass too and some other greens. The young lad that helps us with chores after school got a pair of calls from us last year and his have been laying eggs since late January but he has them in a heated shop.

Too late the perfect way to do it has been posted. If you would like to know what we do feel free to pm me. We raise as many as we want each year with simple methods, that should work for most.

Mine are laying too....

AND the goose layed her 1st egg yesterday as well No She layed it then burred it in the hay. No egg today so I am trying to decide to let her make her gaggle (?) or bring it in and toss it in the incubator.
