Has anyone kept ducklings with chicks.
I have 3 chicks 1 mths old and 4 ducklings 1 wk old.
It seems silly to have two brooder lamps going and
was thinking of putting them together.
Just not sure of the outcome?

I have when they're young but when the chicks get older they can be brutal so watch them. If the ages were switched and the ducklings were older I'd say go for it but I put 4 4week old chicks in with a 2week old duckling and the rotten things made the poor ducklings bill bleed in less than 5mins! However, our first birds ever were 3 khaki ducklings and 7 RIR chicks hatched on the same day and we raised them together right from the beginning without an issue at all.

I would not recommend it as the ducklings are very messy with their water and the added humitidy is a recipe for cocci and respitory problems in poultry if they are in a confined area. It's a little different when they are older with room to range.

Watch out for the feed if you do put them together. If you have medicated chick starter the ducks will overdose on it and could die.

Good to know they won't die if the feed is accidentally switched then. There are some online thread about "Ducks and Medicated Chick Starter" indicating possible death from certain feeds.

I'm sticking with duck starter for ducks and chick starter for chicks and housed separately just in case!

They won't be on medicated feed.
And I know not to give it to waterfowl.
I have just never brooded the two together
and wondered if anyone else has.
As for the two shopping baskets good idea
but these guys are to big and need more room.
