So I know its like, -30 out there (for some of us) but lets think happy thoughts! What do you want to try this spring? Grand plans of increasing your garden? New varrieitys? Soil amendments?

Personally, I have about a bajillion things I want to try. Last year was my first year with "my own garden," and it was a huge learing year. If you would like to see some of it, try [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] We were incredibly bussy last summer, and as a result, my Mantra has become "More Organized!" I'm working on a "garden calender" today, listing when I have to plant the "start indoors" seeds, when I'd like to have the compost spread ect.

I have a large garden, a rough guess puts it at about 70'X50' but the soil isn't fantastic, at least for around here. I beleive theirs quite a bit of clay in it, and the topsoil isnt that thick. So organic matter is a first request, especially for the south east corner. I'd like to turn that area into a flower garden, lots of bee and bug freindly plants. And lilies. I love lilies!

Other hopefull additions include: Golden raspberries, a saskatoon patch (mmmmm!!)
Hopefull removals: Weeds. Oh sweet skies, so many weeds! And less squashes. They invaded everything last year!

So my freinds, what are your spring time dreams?

New Here

Always trying new garden plants, especially heritage tomatoes, and fruit trees, but this year I want to build an underground greenhouse, lol, and a really good root cellar.

I have three gardens the 2 that are about 50 x 100' the third is a smaller one that is about 25 x25'. I also have a 15x28' greenhouse. I was hoping to build a fourth fruit garden so I can redo my smaller one, but not sure if that will happen this year with a new babe due in April. I am hoping to try a couple new types of tomatoes, and work on the Atlantic giant pumpkins again this year. Will see how things work out though. I also have to move my one larger garden as it floods too much on a wet year. I am also hoping to purchase a few more fruit trees this year. No more apple trees though as I already have 5 on the go.

Humm, well, I'm going to put out a few more peach seedlings, and some apples, maybe the three little pears will be big enough to go out this spring. I have some nuts in the fridge, no sign of sprouts yet, but if they grow, I'll plant out some more walnuts....chestnuts too. I'll dig out the weeds on both sides of the hascap plants and pile some small stone around each plant so the chcikens can't dust in the loose earth. I might plant squash down both sides of the hascaps again too, as the ones that had squash buddies seemed to like having their roots cool and shaded. Almost time to bring the cherry stones out of the fridge, umm, might start another raspberry patch, time to weed the asparagus again and manure it. Not sure after that. Oh, wait, tomatoes, I forgot the tomatoes.
