Is Splash a recognized variety in any of the breeds?

I'm curious because it seems odd to me that Blue is recognized when it doesn’t breed true, yet Splash isn’t (for the Ameraucana anyway) and it does breed true. What am I missing here? scratch

I don`t believe it is. I know it isn`t in Oz. It is just considered a breeding tool, or a waste, whatever way you want to look at it. Sometimes you have to be careful when using splash in you blue program as it can start to compromise the quality of your blue.

I think everyone has different ideas about things but I really like all things blue and to me there is nothing prettier than a real `pidgeon` blue. I find some of the blues I see here a bit `dirty` not a really nice, clean, bright blue. I am not sure why that is, I haven`t bred blue here..... yet! Laughing

Old English Games are a reconized color in Blue Splash with the Americian Bantam Assoc.
It is my personal belief that all splash colors should be reconized by both the APA and ABA as they are a naturally occuring color when mating the blue colors and with the games they usually produce a better blue color when mating Blue X Splash and also the fact that when you mate Splash X Splash you get 100% Splash. I think the Modern Games will be having a qualifling meet for Splash very soon.
I also find that my splash's are incredibly typey and I enjoy showing them in my Games.

Good question, Flicker.
Splash poultry can be shown, can't they? In the "Any other Color" category?

I’m right with you there Coopslave. Blue = beautiful! I like medium slate blue best myself, though dark steely blue is nice too. Hmm, maybe high time to get some blue into your pens. Razz

Good to know viczoe. It seems a shame really that more breeds do not recognize Splash. I’ve seen some truly gorgeous splash birds online. Hopefully the times are a changing in that regard.

KathyS, I believe they can be shown. Which kind of makes it all the stranger, doesn't it? Suspect

Kathy in APA, ABA sanctioned shows there is no class called "Any Other Color", you can show a bird that is not a reconized color but you would list the color and it would be considered a non- standard color and could not compete out of it's own color class, so could not compete for best of breed. In fairs that have shows but not sanctioned any thing goes. But if I were to judge such an event I would treat it as I would a sanctioned show unless told otherwise by the organizers to do differently. Usually in those types of fairs they use the "any other color class" because they only want to make classes for the most common color and everything else is thrown into the "any other color class or AOC". They make it extremely hard to place birds when they do this.
