I am looking at getting 30 to 40 black sex-link hens, they are 10 weeks old, and I am wondering what is a fair price? Would you give a deal on that many?

In our area of NB, day old chicks average from $3 to $10, depending on the breed and the seller. Some are higher priced if they are really rare.
The feed store sells point-of-lay hens (16 weeks old) from $8 to $10, but they order in huge volumes, so can give a better price.
Generally a bird that old around here, would get from $5 to $25, again depending on the breed and the seller.
For an order of 30 plus birds of mine, I would give a discount. If I was bringing them in from elsewhere, I probably would not.

Here, Rochester hatchery sells its brown sex link day old pullet chicks for $2.70 if you purchase 25-49. A buck a week for brooding would bring them to $12.70.  50 cents a week brooding would bring them to $8.70 each.

Here is their order form...

They also deliver to Winfield, 30 minutes away.

Thanks , Auntieevil, does the feed store still have birds and where is it located? I can't even get chicks from the feed store now and they don't grow them out to sell later.

He is asking $8 for the witch is not a bad price, just have not seen the birds in person yet.

$8 a bird sounds very reasonable.  If they are healthy and you just want a bunch of layers, I would snap them up.

Sorry, the feed store has 2 days in the spring they bring in birds.
If the birds are in descent shape, $8 a piece is reasonable. You could always ask for a price break Very Happy

He said he had 30 left and he'd take $30 off if I took them all, so have to see how they look. The one in the ad looks good so we'll see.
