I have no lights in my hen house right now. I have no power, so have been searching for economical ways of placing lights in my building. My coop is at least 200 yards from any power source. I have found solar led lights, and just wondered if anybody has tried them. They are for sheds and are sold through home hardware

I have seen them and like the idea, not sure if you can set them up on a timer or not? But you could go turn them on later in the afternoon and extend their evening light a bit, I think most last up to 8 hours. Then it would have all day the next day to recharge before you used it again, as long as you get some sunshine. Winter would be bad for solar I think because the cold would be hard on the empty batteries and you wouldnt be getting a lot of days with good strong sunshine.

I have two of those solar lights and i like them. Only thing is they automatically turn on at dusk and shut off at Dawn so they are more like a night light for chickens but they should help with egg production I would think.
( They turn on when it is dark so if there was no natural light in your shed they would stay on all the time. not sure how they would last if that was the case?)
(You can turn them off with a switch) but you cant turn them on if there is some light already)

I use them in a coop for young ones in the Spring, I find if they have a nightlight on they dont pile up. I just hung the solar panel on the outside wall facing West.

Also have one I have used for three years now in the Duck house. I first put it in so they would go in their house at night. I mounted the solar panel on the roof of the shed.

No problem with them summer or winter. I am surprised how long they have lasted. I havent even changed the batteries.
I think I paid $15 for the first one it was on sale and then $25 for the second one.

Mine has 6 led lights, uses AA batteries in the light part, they suggest changing once a year but i have not had to that yet.
It is a Fusion Brand, number 16909 I bought it at Co-op in SK.
Reading reviews, I see that there are many different products out there, some that work and some that don't.
