Can chickens contract or become ill from wild birds with Salmonella?

So as I'm stripping and treating my coops and chickens for the Red mite, the Nelson area (here in B.C.) is experiencing a Salmonella outbreak amongst the wild bird population. It is affecting our domestic cats who are killing and eating the birds causing them to become quite ill and of course, being so paranoid right now about what pests and diseases can affect our flocks, I'm wondering if chickens can become ill from the salmonella in the droppings of the wild birds and/or can it affect their eggs by being passed on to humans? Two questions here I guess.

Any input or knowledge on this would be appreciated. Oh and we do not have feeders up for the wild birds but they are in abundance here anyways.
