Last night my husband and I happened to catch a show on the Documentary channel about a couple in Nova Scotia who were farming for the first time. The young man was learning how to butcher some of his own food.

I thought it was pretty interesting. I was surprised to see they actually showed animals being butchered, cleaned and skinned. This seems like something that many people are very opposed to seeing. Many people don't want to know where their food comes from.

I could relate to what was said about loving and caring for the animal both when it was alive, and when you are killing and eating it.

Anyway's, did anyone catch the name of the program? We missed it, and my husband was hoping to watch it again. (How fast that guy clean the pig really impressed him.) We are learning to do our own animals and found it interesting. I really enjoyed the shots (photography filming) in the film as well.

That's neat (and surprising) they actually showed stuff like that. I'd like to check this show out myself.

Well, I haven't managed to figure out the name of the Doc. I tried the link, Fowler, but I couldn't get it to give me a back schedule.

Chicory Farm, The chicken is my Polish X Frizzle named Phyllis Diller. I have her paired up with my Polish roo in hopes of making a bigger hair doo on the babies. Last years chicks from the two were taken by a weasel. She's a character.

I found a few links on Youtube with clips of this fim and an interview.

This link may show the whole documentary or just a trailer. I don't have time now to watch the whole thing, but I thought I would share anyways. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I found the video here, but I'm not sure if it plays the whole thing.

I'm thinking that this site just might be the one to watch it on! It has it in a series of clips or episodes. I'm just watching the first episode now. Yay! We'll see how much I get to watch before I have to head home. I'm watching it on someone elses computer with highspeed.

Moose and I finished watching it last night.

It hits pretty close to home really, just have to find the people to teach me to butcher. It was a beautifully presented documentary, I kind of wanted to hear more about how he felt about the meat quality and taste while overcoming eating something he was attached to. Maybe I should do my own documentary Wink

I did wonder, at the end, would I make the decision he did, and stop the pursuit of my connection with the circle of life...
