Our nasty milk cow is due to freshen soon, neighbors bull jumped the fence early and didnt have the heart to abort her, so we need to find some orphan calves to put on her. So if anyone hears of any or has any come up in the next two weeks I am interested. Prefer Beef breeds.

Baby beef calves around here are running over $300 each. I currently have a few holsteins, although I imagine theres lots out your way too. I could buy some beef calves for you at the Vold Jones Vold auction in Ponoka, bit of a drive for you though!

I saw what prices were at this year, I don't like to source from auctions, just hoping someone has a twin they don't want come along. My cow is starting to udder up so guessing her due date by my calculations is correct and that gives me 1 1/2 weeks to find one...

Has anyone on here raised a calf for someone else and just gotten paid to do it? I had a fellow approach me to do that but not sure?

I did something similar. I had a farmer friend bring me three calves, one was not doing very well at all was 3 days old and pretty much refused to drink. I was able to keep that one going for approx a week and then it died. What we did with the other two was I got the heifer calf and he got the bull calf back. He had bought the milk replacer and provided a bale of hay (round bale)for them once they were older. I bottlefed as I did not have any cows or anything, but it worked out great, as I traded the heifer back to him for a young cow to butcher. It worked out great, but I think you would want to have some sort of agreement drawn up if you weren't good friends.
