I think everyone is expecting super calf prices in the fall, thus making the orphan calf prices high right now also. Good luck with them!!

Seems everyone around our area is wanting $350 for a day old calf, too rich for my blood...I am sure the prices will come down once we are in full swing of calving season, but one never knows.
The picture butte auction was selling day to week old beef calves for up to $375 this past weekend...

Geez, the dairy we got the jersey bull calf from gave him to us. I know, it's a dairy breed (jersey) but still, you would think that if you had some grass pasture over the summer with nothing to do with it that even a jersey, free, would be a good thing.

They kill all their bull calves by day 2 or 3. I just lucked out when I called them last year and they kept him until we picked him up. I mean we didn't butcher him, trying to train him to be an oxen!!
