My Americauna hen may not lay every single day, (although she's not a bad layer), but when she does, she lays a doozie! I always feel bad for her when she lays one of these eggs. Last night my husband surprised me with asking if I thought she would prolapse one day. Perhaps she will. I check her when I find one of these. She's a wonderful hen. Really gentle and friendly. I hope I never find her prolapsed.

Anyways, here a couple of yesterdays eggs. Also with the big egg is an egg from my other Americauna hen and a nice egg from one of my cochins. I don't have an accurate scale so can't tell you how much it weighs, but I do know it has some weight to it. I have had a couple that are a bit bigger.

Anyone else's Americauna's lay huge eggs like this? I would love to hatch some of them out. Sometimes they are single yoked, sometimes doubled.

Quite a few of them are. But some are just one big yoke. Sometimes she lays a more normal sized but still very large egg. Last spring I tried to incubate some, but my incubator had a huge heat spike on day 18 - 19, and the eggs all died. I opened them and lots of them had chicks in them. It was so disappointing. I'm crossing my fingers for this coming spring.

I'm curious to know if her large egg size will be passed on to her offspring.

Double yolk eggs are genetic, so I'm assuming the size would be as well. Good luck!

Are the hens laying the eggs in the pictures all the same age? I thought birds started laying those large eggs as they got a little aged?

Owie, whatever the answer is. I'm with you SB. Poor thing. LOL

Both of the hens that laid those eggs are the same age.

The one hen has always laid the bigger egg since day one.
