This is our pup Jasper, as well as our 13 year old Golden Retriever, Misty.
While Misty is a registered purebred, Jasper is just a lovable mixture of Golden Retriever, Rough Collie and Great Pyrenees. We've had him over a month already, so this intro is a bit late. But so far I'm really pleased with him.

I am hoping the Guardian portion of his breeding will kick in and help protect my livestock, and although he is interested in the chickens, he's made no moves to chase or panic them so far...keeping a close eye out, though!
He also barks when he hears coyotes howling, and I actually see that as a good sign. Anyway, he should mature into a large dog capable of looking after himself, and maybe (hopefully) the animals and chickens too!

What nice looking dogs. I would love to have a great Pyrenees. Nice to have an older dog to show the younger one the ropes.

Aw, they both look like total sweeties! I know the pup will be a good guard though, with that blood. I love Goldies.

Thanks everyone!
Nuthatch, I had heard that an older dog will help 'teach' a new one, but didn't really know whether to believe that or not. But I am finding it is completely true!
Jasper just adores Misty and follows her everywhere. He is learning from Misty the meaning of "out". (that's the command for her to leave the barn, pen or other area where she happens to be at that moment.) Jasper follows Misty as she leaves, and he is now understanding the command too. So easy!
Now I just have to try to teach him not to dig holes in my perennial garden!

It is very true. Jackson learned most of what he knows from Ozzie our previous dog. While their is always a bit of fine tuning to do. It does save a lot of work. And Jackson will always be Jackson lol. But he does his job. Thanks goodness as it would be a buffet at my house. Lou
