So I purchased 18, 8 week old supposed to be pullets in the spring for general purpose layers. They were supposed to be rhode island reds but the guy ended up giving me half buff orphingtons to complete the order ( which I was totally fine with). Well I got home and opened up the boxes and realized that yep I had the orphingtons and some rir's and some apparently some rir and americana crosses! Well four have ended up being roosters ( two which are gone already due to them killing a hen).

Well today I had one blue and one green egg from these guys! Its was kind of exciting to find mixed in with all the others!

It funny the things that make you giddy!

The colored eggs are great fun and a good way to keep kids interested in growing their own food. Rhode Island Reds and Americanas have always been my best layers and will always be part of the flock.

Thank you everyone. And so far she has laid a tiny blue egg 3 of the last four days! I have yet to see the huge green one again but it was pretty big for a 1st egg!
