What is after the chick stage. These birds are pretty much all feathered out. They were hatched the end of May. I want to start them on more than chick starter. What does anyone suggest?

If they're layers (opposed to meat birds), I switch over to 'grower' at 6-8 weeks. Preferably 8 weeks. I'm interested in what others have to say about this as well.

I change them over to grower after 3 weeks, but not a hard and fast change. I usually mix starter and grower together for a period of time. Growing chicks here will often have other foods and hay after they come off starter.

We keep our chicks on starter only for 4 weeks, then move them to a 1/2 starter and 1/2 grower (grain) till they are 8 weeks old. Once they are 8 weeks we put them on straight grower grain, after the first egg I switch them to the layer grain, just has a bit more calcium in it.
My chicks also go out into pens on grass around the 6-8 week stage, depending on room. At this time make sure you are giving them some sort of grit to help break down the grass/grains.

I do the same. And I feed grower (along with table scraps/treats/grass and bugs) until they start laying. Then I feed 75% layer ration mixed with 25% wheat.

Hidden, when you say grower grain do you mean a grain like wheat or is this a supplement mix?

My grower is a balanced ration made with chopped grains and minerals mixed in. I have moved away from the commercial pelleted grower and they really like the grains.
