Looking to bring in some day-old's from B.C either at the end of May or sometime in June and really have no idea where to look in regards to getting them here. The faster the better obviously, but at the same time I don't want to pay crazy amounts either. Plus I would love feedback on the services you decided to go with.

Thanks.

Depending where in BC would depend on transport. There really isn't much out there for "non hatchery" people.
I personally use ACE Courier out of Medicine Hat to certain places, but if they cannot do the trip in 1 day they wont do it. So I ship an afternoon and the chicks are to where they need to go by the next morning.
I am limited to a few main cities in Alberta and a couple in south east BC.
Being you live further north you could probably get them from deeper into BC as long as they have an ACE Courier depot in their city.

The other option is West Jet, a bit more costly, and your seller must be willing to box them properly and ship them, then you need to go to an airport near you to pick them up.

The third option is getting a ride with someone off the site that might be travelling between the two provinces around the time you want chicks.

Canada Post, Grey Hound are not options unless you are an inspected hatchery.

I would get eggs. Always makes me sad to hear of chicks dying in transport.

We are doing a transport run in May (long weekend) from Vancouver Island - Edmonton. We also ship chicks often, using WestJet. In all our shipments we have only ever lost one chick.

ACE courier isn't always clear-cut on their rules. I think each location makes their own policies. Last time I tried to arrange shipping from Red Deer to Grande Prairie I was told they do not ship chickens. I wish is there was a reliable, affordable courier that would handle live birds, and ship to a variety of locations. Transportation is always the challenge.
