I just purchased some neo-chlor and the package
states not to use on laying birds.

Does anyone know why?

You can use it, there will just be residue in the eggs, so they consider them unsafe for human consumption.

"Antibiotic residues in eggs encourage the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria. That's why the withdrawal times are printed on the packages of antibiotics. A rule of thumb is to withhold eggs one week longer than the recommended withdrawal time for meat. The recommended withdrawal time for meat with Neo-chlor is 10 days, so the eggs should be okay to eat at 17 days after the last dose of medication. If these eggs are for your own use, I would have no hesitation at all in eating them at 17 days, but if they are for sale, they're most likely not a problem but legally, you may be on thin ice since there was no specific withdrawal for eggs given on the Neo-chlor container. It's not likely to cause a problem but you should be aware of the possible legal exposure if selling the eggs."

i found this... couldn't find the actual drug on my paper because it is a mix.

If you have a different name...then i can look it up..or i could look up each drug separately....but sometimes drugs potentiate other drugs; so the times it takes for any residue to disappear may be completely different than just adding the two withdrawal times together

Neomycin at 0.25g/L treating for 5 days has 0 residues in the whole egg after the 5 days of treatment.
Tetracycin at 0.25g/L for 5 days, has a 6 day withdrawal until there are no residues in the whole egg
Tetracyclin at 0.50g/L for 5 days has a 9 day withdrawal until there are no residues in the whole egg.
The above fellow states a 17 days.... i would probably go with that....and then you should double the withdrawal if it is following the organic guidelines

In humans neomycin sulfate bonds to the RNA and in known to cause kidney failure and deafness. They are also studying the effects of it on fetuses..mutation or infertility in the mother. I know that humans are different then birds but I am wondering with that label and no withdraw times if they may already know something about what it does to the reproductive system.

Thanks for the help interesting.
Should be ok as I am giving it to two turkeys that have
swollen sinus and they are not laying and I wouldn't be
eating their eggs anyway.
