If I trap and release and they return then I will trap and shoot. I have no guns or licences but I do have friends and I am sure they will be a dead shot from a couple feet away outside the trap.

I will not be able to participate in the redneck raven hanging activities. Doug would cry.

Do you know that last year the ravens un latched my chicken tractor and opened the door, then took all 7 half grown geese out and are them? It was heartbreaking. Those darling gooses all et in a single afternoon.

But ya gotta admire their ingenuity!

Sadly I think shooting one raven will just get rid of one raven.  Unless you hang it.  That's the deterrent.

It's nasty and I hate seeing it but it did free us of ravens for about a year.  I suspect I'll have to do something similar this spring. Sadly.

Dead goslings are probably nastier. However ingenious.

Could you make a 'Scare-Raven'?

Black feathers from the Dollar Store, or a butchered black chicken, hang them in a Raven-ish form...

Yes, wasn't there a thread a while back of making a fake raven from a black garbage bag?

Any chance of finding one of those fake crows they sell at Halloween? What if they saw you blow one away?

Do you have your PAL? Possession and Acquisition Licence.
How close are your neighbors? What would the say if they heard you shooting your 22?
Do you have a raccoon trap?  My neighbor uses one of these to trap magpies and it works very well.
How much larger are these Ravens?
Here is your bad boy if you have a PAL. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Here is my bad boy, a gamo cfx with PBA ammo.

I guess I will be getting my PAL. Thanks for the pics! I think my dad has one of those air rifles. With the scope he is very accurate.

I have one of the old model 36 Diana's. Too bad they quit making them to that quality.
A good high powered pellet gun like those mentioned are great to have as they don't disturb anyone.

I don't think I have to worry about noise. My neighbours are shooting it up all around me. They couldn't possibly complain.

What do you think they are shooting at?
They maybe able to help you out with your problem?
Barter some of your eggs or other thing you may have for pest removal?
Buy them a box of ammo?

Up until last summer we had never had a problem with ravens. They are like invading vikings!!
They would wait till darrell would head off to work then the flock of them would sneak attack. Started off with just a couple, then they started bringing their friends. What a racket they'd make after plundering. They were going in thru the coop door and stealing the eggs from under my Cochin girls. They also got all of my ready to hatch duck eggs.
So, on Darrell's days off, we got up early and he drove down the drive, parked it, then snuck back up on foot with the shot gun. Boy were they surprised! Blew one away and nailed it to the side of the coop in plain view right then and there; stopped having problems with them after that. They flocked off!

They are starting to come back for fly byes though, so think they'll need another reminder.

If you don't want to see the corpse you can attach it to a wire and throw it up onto the roof of the coop.

JDWest speaks the truth...and she lives 5 minutes away. I will bet her Darryl scared the ravens all southwest to me!

But I do have a coop roof where Doug will NEVER see a raven. Hmmmm....

Pm'd you Sue.

They can be hard to get that way. They are very smart! And it helps if you use their pattern against them. It would have to be a covert operation! Lol

Well you could have brunch at Sue's house and go out periodically to shoot at ravens.

A brilliant idea!

We could have brunch in the gazebo, armed to the teeth, simultaneously shooting ravens 360 degrees around us.

Completely brilliant!
