We have a projected low of -37C here tonight. That is way to low for comfort to leave the Schips in their ones indoor/outdoor runs. The new runs are insulated but not heated.

So I am off to bed because I will guarantee you they will start demanding to go out in 6 more hours.

Ugh. My dogs are the same way - bring them inside when it is less than -30 but at about 2 am they want out, whatever the outside temperatures.

Well they did let me sleep but are, starting to make noises down there. It is -30 now so I guess I can throw on the cover all and make nine trips back outside.

Then the crate cleaning can begin...

Isn't it a bad thing to bring in a animal when it's so cold ? They will adjust from what I've read , and by taking them in you disrupt that ? just saying that's all .Not to say you should allow them to freeze , but rather make them comfortable where they are ? ...............no offence intended

We have temperature swings here that would boggle the mind. The animals are used to it. It can be -30 and then a warm front moves in and it is above zero within the hour. Freaky.

The dog houses are straw stuffed and 6" thick with insulation. They are located in the barn and out of the wind. But -37 is -37 and even with dogs doubled up for warmth it is much too cold for a 15 lb dog. I would rather they experience a little temperature change than freeze their extremities.

Poor little puggy, who is 18ish lbs., is not a big fan of the cold. Makes very fast trips outside and runs back in on three legs.

Most of our outdoor dogs are sleeping in a pile of straw in the barn, covered with cats.

My boys took off after a coyote yesterday and the temp was -38 here. They were gone all day yesterday, all night and I finally found the fools about a mile and a half from home chewing on a cow that the neighbour had lost. Guess they got side tracked and figured lunch was better! Lol. I was pretty worried about them and spent all day searching. This morning it was still -33 but had warmed up to -21 by the time I found them

It is hard on the animal to bring them in and out in the real cold, can cause Pnemonia according to my vet anyways! He said you have to do one or the other
