Well, Christmas is truly here when you have heard:

Handel's Messiah
Oh Holy Night by anyone with a voice
Fairytale of New York by The Pogues

Ah Fowler that's a great tune! It does have a new years flavor but for me Christmas is often heralded with the levity and pause in the rat race of life that takes us in to the new year so it's all good to me. Here's another tune similar to that which gets me leaning in towards appreciation of the people in my life - those durned bagpipes, strumming the heartstrings like a pro. So many have done this tune but I like this one by the High Kings:

Anyone seen Waking Ned Divine? The end credits play to this. Funny and beautiful movie which I think I've watched more than once at this time of year.

Seems those Celts have it going on for Christmas. I love the Pogues Fairytale In New York too. I found this, it's about 10 min long, BBC production thing. Good grief, what happened to that dudes teeth??

EXACTLY.

Also, he happily accepts awards from the CANADIAN Country Music Association, and then reminds everyone that he's Scottish in his acceptance speeches. Really? REALLY?

I promise that in the unlikely event that I'm ever claiming awards with my NZ accent here in Canada I'll make sure to point out that my dad was born in New Brunswick. I must confess that nothing charms my ears quite as much as a soft Scottish accent. well, maybe a Welsh one possibly.

yeah, I always thought it was COUNTRY because them folks was ridin' them hoss's in the wide op'n spaces of the country and it was WESTERN b'cuz they was doin' ut startin' oot from the east and goin' WEST. You can tell I have given this some thought Suspect The great old oracle known as the radio also told me that the music side of it came cause the cowboys needed some rythmical poetry for herding the cows and guess it got pretty lyrical on those long haul rides.

heck. avoiding the jobs again.

Be sure to tell me how many times he mentions being Scottish. It's my own personal drinking game.
Twice in short succession. Very Happy

It was an amazing concert.

that Sarah Mclachlan sings that Skate Away song very nicely :-). Beautiful. And seeing that skating, remember how much I like watching the figure skating in the Olympics - as much as the horsey stuff.

might be that people are weary of this thread but just in case, I got another tune! Heard it today on the radio, don't think it is new but it is Mountain FM's answer to Christmas tunes, they are a rock station and my best listening dial:
