They are calling for up to 20cm of snow tomorrow! Shocked  How can that be when it has been so lovely for that last couple of days? Please tell me they are wrong, please tell me it can't be true!

I guess I have a busy afternoon getting dogs and chooks and misc items ready for 8 inches of snow!!! Shocked

That's why I moved to the coast. My last winter in Alberta saw 2 different 2 week long bouts of minus 40. It wasn't a nice winter. And I lived one winter in Calgary where the evening started with a skiff of snow, and there was so much snow in the morning that we couldn't get out of the house and had to crawl out a second story window. There was some drifting of course, but a whole lot of snow.

I LIKE being snowed in. Perfect excuse to hibernate.

I just always make sure I have plenty of groceries for us and feed for the critters! We check forecasts obsessively all winter long, and make sure we're stocked up a day or two before a storm. I sometimes pre-emptively keep my kid home from school, if I think they're just going to get sent home early anyway, and if it's -30 or colder, I keep her home.

Coopslave is down in chinook country, though. The snow either blows away, or melts off on a pretty regular basis. It's not like that where I live! Lol

I'm in BC and our forecast is much the same for tonight. I was battening down the hatches today. It is raining now, first time since late June. Supposed to turn to snow tonight, but with mountain weather you never know.

It's very cool and foggy here again today.... feels like that four letter word starting with "s" is just around the corner.  Poultry kiddo and I stripped the main coop and re-bedded with shavings, peat and deep straw.  Not sure how I get roped into these things as the chickens are really her passion not mine!    Hubby is going to put up sheet metal roofing over a small portion of the run so they will have a protected snow free area for the winter.  Surplus boys get moved tomorrow to the bachelor pad.  We are so close to being winter (snow) ready  Very Happy

Piet, I am south of Crossfield, fringe dweller. I would say equal distance to Crossfield, Airdrie and Cochrane.

Was a beautiful day today, I think we reached 17C. Lovely evening with an amazing sunset and huge pink sky. Still 12C now, was just out checking on dogs and collecting cat in thongs and T-shirt. It is hard to believe I will wake up to 8 inches of snow tomorrow. Hopefully not really windy tonight to keep me up all night....again. Really need some ear plugs for here. Just to sound sensitive. Have finally gotten over waking up every time the furnace goes on. We had only wood heat for that last 13 years!!! Laughing

Good luck tomorrow everyone. Report in with what you wake up to, I am interested.

I don't think we are far from Madden at all, maybe less than 10 kms.  Have yet to adventure that way.  We are just off 766.

Have fun ploughing snow. I have yet to believe it! I have not idea where my boots are packed......

Hey girl, just a head's up: thongs are usually called "flip flops" in this country. Otherwise the image goes under "too much information". Even I (bilingual as I am) paused...

Weather's turned here. Heavy cold rain but no snow yet....

Well it was thongs plural. I thought about it and thought although YOU might be in a thong (singular) and t-shirt it was unlikely that the dogs and cat were wearing thongs too!

Love, love, love the snow! Makes me feel powerful that I can conquer the snow and keep on going in spite of it. I love throwing the dogs in a snow bank. I love getting on my insulated coverall and tackling Doug in the snow.

Wait until you experience a Chinook!

Ya, when I grew up our summer shoes were called thongs. Nowadays that word conjures up a whole different thing in one's mind eye and that sucks!! why would shoes and underwear be interchangeable words, that sucks. and flip-flops, where in the blazes did that terminology come from. Gack. I think the world is going to blazes in a quick hurry, where are the days of innocence gone. I am still pretty innocent and just don't get this stuff. Ya, imagine that eh? Mild enough to wear your summer shoes, that is just cool. We have had that horrible inversion thing, horrid fog in the morning and then lifting, but only lifting a little bit. The mountains have not been seen in days. Now last night it rained its ever lovin' face off and still is. Maybe that will wash away the fog and we can have some clear skies. Oh well, still got a picture of thongs on your feet, not your a$$. Have a wonderful day, CynthiaM.

CynthiaM, I am so glad you have a mental picture of thongs on my feet not my a$$. The second may have scarred you for the rest of your life!!! Laughing

Light dusting of snow here now. May be just starting for the day. Temp has dropped 2 degrees since I got up and I can't even see half way down the drive. I think we are in for it today!!

Haha Tara you are suffering from LowerMainland-itis.  The south coast of BC, of which you speak at such length and with such vehemence, is about 2% of the province!  The rest is fabulous and dry, or dryer, with the exception of the actual coastline (forgive me Rupert and area- I did not forget you ).

I love the area of BC I'm in now.  4 seasons.  Snow in the winter, and not too cold to go out and enjoy it!  Sun in the summer, and just hot enough to be too hot to do much more than go out and enjoy it. Twisted Evil

Yes, I think Coopslave knows full well what she has gone back to, and what she's left.  She's a world traveller!  She (sorry to type about you as if you're not here Coop) is making the best of a move she did not want to make and vowed she never would.

I'm sure she appreciates the argument against the rain, but where she came from, it was closer to Heaven (with early frost) than The Lower Wasteland described in your post (which is bringing back some soggy, grey and slug-filled memories, for sure.  I spent most of my life in the region too, and wild horses couldn't drag me back).

What's it doing now Coop? I got some pictures from my friend in Airdrie and they're getting wacked!

Absolutely wacked. Not sure the shade cloth will survive. Going out often and knocking the snow off but we will see. Even the chooks are saying forget it and staying inside!!!

You are right Tara, dogs loved the run in the snow. The back into the snuggly warm houses they went.

Very glad I am not driving back to BC to get the horses right now!!!!!!!

Low heavy cloud here and strong North wind last night (I know from the dog - he lies on the back verandah in a South wind, front verandah in a North wind..) and spitting rain. Maybe some hail - lots of snow up high in the mountains but thus far... only wet here. Temperatures are really going to dive tonight so that may change things.

Vancouver meanwhile is still brilliantly sunny and warm.

Yes Coops, send us photos.

And as I thought, Alberta may be sunny but not sunniest....

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Even in Canada Estevan SK, last I looked was the sunniest place in the country.
