I just wanted to send out a friendly reminder to everyone that has dogs with back dew claws, don't forget to trim them.

I have a Pyr/Border Collie and I went to clip his back dew claws but left them to long and they were poking into the pad.

In case your wondering, I got them clipped but my Niko(he is a momma's boy) did make a little whimper (I think the bigger the dog the bigger the wimp! LOL)but he is fine. I flushed the pads with salt water and inspected them, no infection present. Smile

You have a Four Fowl Lap?

Is that like a Three Dog Night?

Does as Four Fowl Lap make for a foul lap?

First off, I need to go a little off topic and mention that this forum is the most wonderful place to be, with others running off topic and going down long roads, to find their friends to play with. Where would we all be without our forum friends and our rather off coloured jokes and teasing of one another Cool . why not? Play as little children, in the sandbox as big as the world, who wouldn't want to be there? Happy days. Tara - tongue

Dew claws, yes, we have a little pooch with issues....he is the bichon friese cross chihuahua. He has back dew claws and they irk me. His sister does not. His back dew claws are like horrid little hangey downs and they flop and bop around. They always get trimmed cause they are visible and you can't miss them. So tell me, why on earth, when these two were neutered and spayed, did that vet not take a second and remove them, it would have been such a simple thing. We asked the last time when they were at the vets for second shots if they could come off. Yes. $45 a claw. Oh man oh man oh man....we used to nip off the dew claws (front) on our pups and then bandage them when we had pups. Why was this not performed when the little dude was under anaesthetic. I a still rather annoyed at that. I am not prepared to pay $90 for a stupid procedure like that. It bothers me to no end that he has these flanges hanging down and could get ripped off in play. And still think if I just twisted and twisted, that little piece of skin would break and I would have a hunk of ugly dew claw in my fingers....that would be in a perfect world. He would probably bleed to death or something, so I am not going to do it. Boy oh boy though, every time I see that dew claw hanging down like it does I am so tempted. Or even a little snip....surely it would stop bleeding. Gick. I cannot even begin to say out loud how much this bugs me and maybe one day, I might experiment on one leg Exclamation I guess if the claw was surgically removed now, it would need stitches. I think I could do stitches. I can do other things that I never in a million years thought I could do EVER in my life now, maybe I could cut and stitch. Nah...guess I am in a dreamer world this morning. Geeeze, you got me going on a tangent now about those stupid hangey downs. Poor little dude, the things I think about him. So ya, totally agree, gotta cut those dew claws, they grow like the dickens! Have an awesome day, CynthiaM.

New Here

I had them removed from my dog when he was a pup and had him neutered. To this day he is almost 10 now you cant touch those legs they seem so sensitive. Im not sure I assume it had something to do with having them removed.
