When I brought home my LF Cornish last month I was cautioned not to just plunk them outside in a cold coop. Sensitive, they are! So I put them in the well sealed and above zero pump house. Eventually I found out that temperature was not my only problem. The humidity was through the roof. Water was running off the windows and walls. Yikes! There was no way I could improve the circulation in this building. It is tighter than a drum. And being a pump house it was moist to begin with.
What to do, what to do?
Then I remembered my dehumidifier in the basement. Would it work? I lugged it out, plugged it in, turned it on and presto! Within 12 hours the humidity was down to normal. And the bonus is I have a reserve of distilled water in the reservoir to water the chickens with!
Does anyone in our warmer, moister areas put a dehumidifier in their coop? If you have one, give it a try and see!
