We seem to be having a run on the animals that have been invading our coops. What is the most unusual animal you have found in your coop? Non predators count too.

A chicken?

I am so glad I only have a very boring answer to this question. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Wasn't in my coop but I did have a pigeon visit my barn once. It was a pretty white and speckled fawn color. It kept coming round and would sit on my barn for hours. Then one day it stopped coming round. Figured a hawk or owl got it.

I have Ravens bigger than chickens come in the coop and help themselves to my eggs. One day I think I will trap them and raise ravens instead of chickens. There looks like there may be good eatin' on them carcasses.

Hahaha I agree Sue Laughing

We get a lot of these sneaky creatures that will go right up our chicken tunnels into the coop, steal eggs and out they go again but at least they haven't murdered like the ravens and the snowy owl we had visit

We also have some tiny chickadee like birds that stay all winter and there isn't fencing small enough to keep them out! they go right through our 1x1inch fencing and there's sooooo many of them

I'm thinking a Woodland Jumping Mouse. Not so unusual, I suppose, but I never expected to see one in my coop.

Oh wait, what about a Shetland Ram? After he had broken down every single door in the place looking for grain. Must have blocked that one out.

In the coop? Owls, bears, racoons ,bobcat, mice, snakes, and a miniature horse.

Daughter, who was about 8, found a miniature horse wandering on the road. She brought it home and installed it in the chicken coop. I had to explain that horse theives are generally hanged and finding a horse does not mean that the owners threw it out. No, you cannot keep it. I don't care if it fits in the chicken coop. The chickens are FREAKING OUT!

Some days I am scared to open that door.

Sometimes black birds get in, squeezing between the grid of the fence (run is covered with netting). They have to be very calm and deliberate to squeeze out again - if I find them in there they all panic and flap against the fence, can't get out. LGD likes to pick them off the fence as they flap and squeeze them dead. He hates black birds of any sorts (crows, ravens, black birds, starlings) because they steal his bones and eat his kibble.

He also killed the big Great Horned Owl that I found in the run a few weeks ago. Not sure how it got in - maybe somehow shimmied between the fence and the netting?

Loads of mice and in summer, chipmunks.

Family of foxes when someone left the gate to the run open overnight. They killed over 50 birds because for once I left the birds to run in and out of the chicken house overnight, it was so hot. Baaaad mistake. They get locked up every night now, regardless of heat.

Nice change after my last post, the weirdest creature we found was a goat, never figured how she could crawl in such a small hole to eat chicken food complete with oyster shell

I had a donkey and my large black sow end up in the coop one day. I had a porcupine in the yard once if that counts.

I know our German Shepherd climbed through the chicken door into the coop when I had the gate for the run open so the chickens could free-range for the afternoon, cuz I found her trying to wolf down the evidence (eggs) on the front lawn! She weighs 85 lbs, and I laugh thinking about how she must have looked squeezing through that door. Laughing

I really haven't had anything interesting in our pen aside from me Laughing Thinking back I've had a garter snake(thats harmless 1 scratch ) and some mice but both have ended up food for who ever has killed them. It is surprising how they become so territorial. I get the totem pole with them but back to survival basics and everything is fair game.
My little Heeler trys to go in and hang but he's not as cool as the cats so they usually kick him out Sad

Didn't someone get locked in their coop? I think that would count.

Does my neighbor count? I came home to find her locked in my coop!! She was just checking to see if her guineas had taken up residence in my coop again as they manage to escape at least once a year and usually end up at my house. I wasn't home, but have told her to just check it out before, she went into my building and got locked in. I arrived home about 1/2 hour later to my dog bouncing against the coop door trying to help her (tug lives her). Poor lady I opened the door to find her sitting on my roost petting my silkie hen!
