Ach!! I am pretty sure the last fox I shot had mange. It had crusty lesions all over though not the hair loss normally seen with the disease. Tempest touched it, so I am treating all of the dogs today. I am totally itchy too lol and the thought crossed my mind to tell the vets I had 4 dogs not 3 lol.
What have you experienced with mange in wildlife? Has it affected your other animals? I am assuming it is present in the fox and coyote population here. Is it always present? We have a lot of foxes this year. Wondering if it is due to overpopulation. Any experience would be great to hear about! (I'm going to have a shower now!)

My experience with Mange is in dogs that are over populated (like on a reserve or in puppy mill setting), also seems to affect animals with poor immune systems. I am sure you and your dogs will be ok, best to treat the dogs but with short term exposure you should all be fine.
We dealt with a lot of reserve dogs when I worked in Calgary and a lot of mange cases, I never got it and many times my dogs were in the clinic with me (although not in direct contact with the mangy dogs) and never a problem.

Thanks for the reply, Hidden. Hopefully the meds will keep the dogs from getting it!
