Why is there an ad at the top of my page? Why is it there? How did it get there? It didn't used to be there. I want it to go away. It's bugging me. How do I make it go away? Stupid ad.

I noticed the adds when I came back from holidays near the end of July. Was wondering if they were new or I just never noticed them before.
It's the Dating adds that annoy me the most.

Hmmm....thanks everyone, hadn't even notitced the ads until you all started to complain about them.

Could it be?This promotional advertisement above may be even MORE annoying than the advertising banners found at the top of our forum!
Fowler, just drop a signed blank cheque in the mail addressed to moi. Tell the wife and kids not to buy anything for a coupla weeks while you cover your increased advertising expenses...OR someone pay me quickly to remove this before Fowler pays and calls it his own!!
Either way (besides being pensioned off), I figured out how to stay home and have money sent here.

Still just a bunch of white space, annoying, there used to be something there, but I don't know what. Wonder if I have an ad block on or something that is stopping ads from showing up, maybe a good thing, maybe a bad thing, white space is annoying. Ya, Tara enough sunshine to keep me smilin', nothing bad going on around, just busy, sleeping late cause I'm up later, no child block, and ya, kind of a childish gal in many ways. So I went here to look at my ad preferences. Google adjusts it based on your cookies, and it got the ag and food interests right. But under demographics it had me as a 60 year old female!
I guess my wife's clothing and crafting searches while I'm logged in could explain the female part, but Anna sure won't be happy when I tell her she searches the web like an old lady!

The ads were there a year ago, and to make them go away, someone donated money. Its the standard for this particular forum format. The only way to get rid of them for a year is to donate.

I still only see a big white screen above where the box is that says "logged in as CynthiaM. Your last visit was on ......" well, whatever date I had logged in. It just looks like something is severely missing and it is annoying. I wonder if there is other stuff missing too, not just the ad that everyone is talking about. I find the ads are really slow to appear and often I've scrolled down by then. There is often an "error" message where they should be and really they don't come much on my radar either. In fact when I saw this discussion I had to check that they still show up.

Thanks to the generous donations last year when this happened I was able to subscribe another year without ads.

I will check out the other post Sue, thanks for keeping track of the bad people, 
It costs about $14 per year to keep us ad free. We get credits by members contributing to the forum credit bank by paypal. Last year I asked $1 per person for the bank, we had 2 generous people donate $14 each so we are good for this year but will need credits for next year if we want to keep this ad free. Of course if you sign in as a guest you still see the ads, just and incentive to join the forum.

The very bottom of the page has a link to "contribution". Click on it and it you can use PayPal or something else - can't remember what.
