Cost of keeping a rooster

I'm also thinking in terms of extra care required for hatching eggs.

But the price also reflects what a person wants out of them. You want chicks so you can pay for those eggs that I picked over for the best quality and dated and kept turning.

You want a meal so you can have those eggs that I put in the fridge and there might be oversized and some misshapen ones in them.

as well as myself i am sure allot of you have bought and or sold hatching eggs that ALL developed/ hatched! yes i have sold 100% fertile eggs that SHIPPED customers have hatched..now thats seems to be a good deal to me no?? $60 gets you 12 chicks?? if your not payig for shipping even BETTER DEAL!! Then you get to pick/ choose who you want to use from... i have lots of emails from customers who have had awesome hatches, they seem happy with the money the spent it all depends on your shipping method and how hard you try! if 60 bucks gets you 12 marans, that seems to be a heck of a deal to me! you could get 10 hens, 2 roos! anything could happen!

now i bring in adult birds after spending 200 for the trio, and another 100+ for shipping ect... well get them home, if they are healthy withought having ILT ect.. guess what roosters NOT fertile, the hens lay ultra thin eggs...whoops now i am severly screwed ..... i have 2 hens and a dud rooster for 300 bucks,( i know someone who bought a show pair from someone... still no fertile eggs to this day) if i would have bought chicks/ or eggs i would have saved that spare rooster just in case.... And whats wrong with creating your own line??!! why does everyone want show birds dropped on their lap that someone ELSE has worked to get?? that takes the fun out of it as far as i am concerned... reminds me of the rich kids at the horse shows who bought fully trained horses for 20000 and won all the ribbons while us schmucks got retired race horses to break, work with from scratch LOL but you know what it was worth it in the end! i wouldnt trade any of those horses for my old thoroughbred! anyways...off track now..

all i am saying is there is endless senarios for people and what would work best for them!....i still get people this late in the season wanting hatching eggs??! so to each their own and i like the project of making my own lines not buying joe scmoes lines....

You know I could get a complex here. I see some poeple made a assumption that I was female and refered to me as she. I know you ment no disrespect, but by making that assumption I could take offense where none was intented. I am just pointing out that sometimes we misread something or jump to the wrong conclussion and post in anger when nothing was intended. Sometimes I just can't ttpe what I want to say it just comes out wrong. PS Iam a TROLL.

TrppleJ: I am one of those who likes chicks and eggs later in the season. I have tried hatching early and taising chicks for weeks, or months, with heat lamps until I can send them to the tractors or barn. I want them out of the house and happily growing up on gras as soon as possible. And I dont mind waiting until the breeders have done thire breeding and selected chicks to keep for themselves and now have extra eggs available.

I didnt hatch a single egg this year. Franly it felt like too much work to go through all that earlier this year. Now... not so much, I could happily do some hatching, the chicks could go out after just a few weeks and they can eat grass and bugs to supplement their food.

Is this what you were meaning when you said you were a trollop? I didn't think this was that kind of site, if it is, like the song says, I have been looking in all the wrong places for love.

I learned something new today. When I posted I was a Troll I meant the guy under the bridge, I didn't know there was a new meaning. When HigginsRAT replied she referred to the bridge so we were on the same page, I was surprised at the reference as a Trollop it meant something not nice when I grew up. When I googled it just to make sure I was suprised to see the internet has stolen a really good word and made it mean something total different. I know HigginsRat is not a Trollop as the defintion states, it just shows I read literally and like to have fun sometimes.

Lets see if I can lighten the mood and clear up any miss understanding, or at lest discuss it. Earlier in this convesation I referred to myself as a Troll, so members here would know I am not a she. The only definition of a troll I knew at the time was the mean, ugly,keep to himself guy who lived under the bridge. Then HigginsRAT said she was a Trollop and welcomed me. My definition of a Trollop is a sort of vulgar, woman of the night. Knowing full well HigginsRat probably did not mean it that way, and want to have a little fun, I asked if that is what she was calling herself. I never called her that, just asked for clarifcation. I googled Trollop and it came up with the definition I was use to. I know HigginsRat was probably tring to say there was nothing wrong with being a Troll as she was a Trollop (a female troll). The problem is I tried to have some fun at her expense. I have tried to find what you call a female Troll, It is not Trollop. All you school teachers out there what is the proper name for Female Troll? Yes I am kind of a Troll but I think I have a little elf in me as I am always looking for way to get into trouble, usually don't have to try very hard as this post clearly shows.

That's what I got from it LazyF. I personally don't think she is very Troll like (even a female one) but we have not met in person for many years. People do change.

I don't know you, so I am unable to comment on your likness to a Troll and will take your word for it until I know otherwise.

As far as what a girl Troll would be called, the first thing that came to my mind was Trollass. As in Troll-lass, but when you write it the way I was thinking it really does have a different meaning.

You have my mind working about Trolls of the female persuasion and I am sure we can come up with some gooduns!!

I understand that their are kids on here , and I will say I am sorry for making a joke .I was not calling Higginsrat a trollup I was laughing at the definition. Any child can open a dictionary or google and find a definition. I really did not think that the word c*&k would be offensive since this is a chicken forum containing roosters and such.. Why is it ok to joke about being a Nazi? Who decides what is funny and not ? But since I am a old handi darted duck what can I expect

In my opinion, it has to do in what context the word is used. No one likely would be often if you said "That big guy's named Dick." However, you likely may offend people some here if you said "That guy has a *** **** {I am censoring myself.} It all has to do with context.

Now the Nazi references is another thing. That seems to fall in a grey area where some will find it offense no matter in what context you use the word in.
