I have to admit I don't get the whole 'silkie thing' either. I like my birds BIG with not a lot of fluff (whiskers don't count Very Happy ) and silkies just don't fit that bill.

I always think of them as the poodles of the chicken world (sorry poodle people Rolling Eyes ).

Little does Cynthia know, but she is hosting a secret silkie. I snuck a Silkie egg into that bunch of Cochin eggs she got a couple weeks ago. Mwahahahaha! I was a cuckoo in a previous life.

Shocked Lil' Sue, now you wouldn't be goin' 'bout doin' somethin' crazy like that, now wuld ya girl, smiling a huge smile. Thinkin' if I hadun a silkie egg in the bunch, they would not have looked as big as they did, smiling again. But thanks, I forgot that the mamma is due to hatch soon, need to get some stuff readied for her, she is due on Monday. Now if there is a little top hat silkie baby present, I'll pack it right up and send by mail to ya, smiling that big smile. Kidding. Silkies have their place for surely. Beautiful days to us all, CynthiaM.

Now, Cynthia, I know you like to incubate in that natural way. Are you forgetting that Silkies are mad for motherhood? I have one that just successfully hatched NINE full sized eggs and is raising them in a most intelligent and concerned fashion.

I believe that Silkies are intelligent birds and are merely lulling you into a sense of false security as they develop their nefarious plans for world domination.

I have to come out of the closet on this one. I LOVE Silkies. OK I said it. They are great birds. The last Silkie I had was the sweetest bird ever, once I scissored her topknot she could see everything and she acted like a real chicken. Come to think of it she did look like a poodle when I was done. Wink

It was the little bow you put in the top knot that gave the poodle effect
