Am I Kidding???

My doe has been huge for some time now. Almost wider than she is long. Today she has a HUGE udder! How much time do I have? A day? Less?

I gave the doe and her boyfriends some ekstra straw. I locked them in the barn and plan to go out tonight and tomorrow morning. She is an eksperienced girl but I am not! She is on her own all day when I am at work.

Do you have any other advice for a newbie to goat whelping?

Um I don't think they whelp. Is it kidding ? And no I'm not joking!

They most certainly do whelp if you are coming from a doggy background! No kidding! (Heehee!)

I don't know about this kind of birthing but shouldn't she be by herself?

Well now I am not sure. I guess it depends whether or not she has been bred to a dog. Do you think a Schipperke is big enough to do the deed with a Nigerian Dwarf, Rasilon?

Your goat should have a jug.
Jugs are important and whould be available well in advance.
It is sort of like an x-pen... or in your case an eks-pen.

A jug? What should it be filled with? Ekspensive liquor?

the jug needs filler, the tumbler need sangria.

Tumbler? Have we been talking about pigeons?

Here is a great link, it shows what to look for just before kidding. The sinking of the area beside the tail is a really great indicator.

A jug is a stall or small pen for momma. She births alone in there, a heat lamp can help wet cold babie. Leave her there for a few days to bond with her babies.

Well in anycase you need to get boyfriend away from her if you have them together.
.Not a good idea locked in a barn together.
Boyfriend needs his own stall.

Oh dear, one stall, 3 goats. They all get along so well. It is a pretty large area.

I do not kid out with my billys in the same area.
I have seen them go a bit stupid with the smell of blood.

She needs her own area to bond with her babies as well.
Does not need others stickng their nose in there
Dog panel cutting a corner off the stall will work for her

I will see what I can rig up.

So I went outside last night and separated the boys with an eks-pen. No babies last night nor this morning. You can bet I won't be hanging around school too late tonight!

Good luck on your kidding Sue. Hopefully she does ok, since it is not her first time I would think she will do ok.

Sue, do let us know when the baby(ies) are born and photos too if it's not too much to ask.
