Yep, just like the title says, butt washing day.
Why is it that some birds just get messy butts. I don't like messy butts. When I see one, I will pick up that bird and examine why the butt looks a little messy. Usually it is just some dried on cakey poopy stuff, other times it is dried on cakey poopy stuff that has had layers of poopy stuff, that turn into like poop balls. I usually have no issue to pick these off, yes, I am a butt picker. I can't stand poopy bums.
But I see four of my birds that are gonna require the really big washing of the poopy bum. The two buff orpington cockerels, now honkin' big as big can be, gonna be a grunt to get them into the sink in the shop and two blue cochin hens, I know their weight, they are OK.
After I am done with poopy butt cleaning, I will examine any others that I think might be on that hit list. Oh brother. Thought my days were over for washing birds until the next show . Actually it is only their butts that will get the wash job.
I have a bonus here. My Daughter and her Husband are not due back from their trip up north until tonight, smiling. I have his shop all to myself, smiling again. In that shop in the entranceway, there is a nice deep square sink. There is also a hot water tank, there is also a platform that the cats' food goes on, where I can place the cage to put them in after I have washed their poopy bums. They can walk around and I can just stand there with the blow dryer. (Much easier than when I bathed birds for the show in November in their bathroom , I had to kneel on the floor to blowdry!!). I can stand in the shop. They will never know what I did, smiling again. Not that he would mind, but I prefer to not have an audience when washing POOOPY bums....he thinks me weird enough as it is .
The temperature outside is mild, dam weird if you ask me, it is still 1 degree above zero, been like that for a couple of days, I think it should be far below zero, but not, only my second winter here, but recall last winter was like way, way below zero. Hope that "something wicked this way comes" does not happen, like a sudden ice storm. Oh well. The birds will have dried up bums anyways when they go outside after their butt bath, so no fear of icicles hangin' down, either way...
So, later on this morning, if anyone is looking for me, I will be in the shop washing poopy chicken bums, and checking other chicken bums to see if anyone else needs a bathed bum or just a butt pickin' (have you had enough of the thought of washing chicken butts yet, smiling that huge smile). Have wonderful days, CynthiaM.
