I give up trying to keep the tarp on the hay. It started coming off Sunday in our big wind. Yesterday I sent quite a while and my last nerve putting it back on or so I thought. Now it's hanging half way off flapping madly in the 100km wind. What's the trick to keeping it on??

You could use the same trick we used and move a couple day's drive to the west.

Just have to have it tied down good. I never use a tarp that covers the stack right to the ground. That for some reason always makes the wind get in there. Ours comes down each side maybe 2 inches. We get the rubber bungee straps, hook those in the eyelets and pull them all as tight as humanley possible, and snag onto a twine. That keeps the tarp snug as a bug in a rug! We use this method on our stacks that are about 25' high, and up to 400 feet long! Shocked Lots of tarps lol

I've seen people using old tires to keep the cover for their hay weighed down.

Maybe my tarp comes down too far on the sides. It hangs over about 2 or three feet on the sides and right to the ground and then some on the ends. We used rope to tie to the bale strings and have hung tires on ropes from the grommets. I think I"m going to try the bungee cords. And if that doesn't work I'm moving!!

Anythig with some weight will keep it down .Also if the wind is coming in from the same direction then reposition the tarp so that there isn't any chance of it getting a hold of it ( the wind ) .I normally tie timbers ( 4-6 inch tree's ) to the tarp and that keeps the wind away from pulling the tarp off

I have these kind of twisty things for hay tarps.
You put it through the holes and screw it into the bales till you get to the handle.
I had a wreck with my tarps last year,so bought these at the feed store.
that big wind we just had never moved it a inch!
have no idea what they are called though Sad

HigginsRAT, I think your hay storage building is the best idea I've heard. I put bales on pallets , wrapped them in new tarps, tied them up, and the tarps never blew off, but I had mice and rats nesting and dieing and pooing in the bales and they ended up moldy and gross. Outdoor storaged just doesn't seem to work for me.

We have our hay on skids as well. I used to tie the tarp corners to the skid. Got sick of poking through, and wrapping around, so I put screw eyes in the corners of the pallets as tie down points.
