I just heard the emergency system say there is a major storm, high winds, etc heading to Calgary. Shutting down the main downtown core, so must be major. Take cover everyone and you are in my thoughts!

Wow that does sound serious! Stay safe everyone.
We're having a major windstorm here too. I am afraid for the trees around me, and the tin on my old shed.

Take care all.

Oh my effing gee! I really hope my sheds don't blow over, this must be the biggest test for them yet! Here NW of Edson we just got pounded with 6 inches of wet snow in a matter of hours..

What is with the wind? We are having massive windy conditions too, but it has blown away the clouds. The thermometer says 11 degrees, go figure. It is wind coming from the south west, according to my little windmill thing. Be safe, my forum friends. CynthiaM.

Oh no, it's crazy in Alberta at the moment.
When I look east, it looks like sunset, but it's all fire. Sad

No, not forrest fire, but prairie, and a propane station in Lethbridge is on fire, some explosions there as well.
I'm loading pictures on photobucket at this time, will post later.

They evacuated parts of West Lethbridge, but it sounds like they have lifted the order - at least my daughters boyfriend and his family have gone back home. Now there is an alert for the town of Coalhurst which is about 4 km southwest of my place. I've found all my photo albums and home videos just in case. I hate the thought of just letting my animals free though Crying or Very sad

My cousin lives in south of here near Warner and her friends house is burning. He's out cutting the wire on fences to let his cattle out. Sad and scary No

DCChick, I think they have it under control around Lethbridge/Coalhurst, it's going more south, New Dayton area.
Terrible for the people who live there, but it's not so much populated as Lethbridge, so I really hope they can
keep it better under control.
So sad to let your cattle go, not knowing how it will turn out. That must be a though desicion.
We noticed that our horses were also worried, they sure know that something is wrong, heads up, looking towards the fire and
you could tell they were nervous.

Well, in south Calgary where my sister lives, the winds were strong enough to rip off half the tin roof of an indoor hockey rink. While there were kids playing a hockey game! She said that plywood and tin and styrofoam where flying off and blowing across the parking lot, smashing off car mirrors etc. Was pretty scary, one man was hit by debris in the parking lot but that was it. Holy-Cow Shocked

All is good here this morning. I'm off to hear the news and head to work. I'm sure there will be many stories to hear throughout the day.

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike wind??

They have it pretty much under control, but they are still dealing with fires in the coulees and there is a concern about hazards such as downed power lines. As far as I know, there are 2 houses burned down and also barns/corrals. I feel so sorry for those people.
I have also seen pictures on the internet from Calgary, it's was wild out there too!

Our neighbourghood is still without power. And it might take a while before it will be back on. Luckely we do have a (small) generator, so my incubator is still running and I can make some coffee Smile

I'm ready for a cold but quite winter weather. I love it when it is -25°C, clear skies and NO wind!

I hope Peit's sheds are ok but he won't know until his wife calls him because he is up north working. I was also working yesterday and we were running all day to emergencies. Really weird ones. A car port lifted up and blew over on top of an R.V. and in another case a trampoline lifted up and blew 5 houses down the street and landed on top of a couple of parked cars. A group of mentally challenged people left their home when the power went out and went to a movie theater but forgot that they had something on the stove turned on but because of the power outage they forgot to turn the stove off and they were lucky that we got there when we did because the pot no longer had a bottom on it and the house was charged with heavy black smoke. We also went to a tractor trailer which had blown over and to top it off would you believe that an idiot decided to have a bon fire in his very small back yard in the city and was burning old tables and other garbage in the worst hurricane winds that Calgary has seen in over 40 years and there were flames almost touching the side of his garage. If we had not put it out and it caught his garage and house on fire we could have lost the whole neighborhood due to the incredible winds. When looking on the news at some high rises down town it looked like one of those war torn cities. There were multiple windows dashed to pieces and you could see right into those office spaces. Those high rise windows are supposed to be very strong with tempered glass. I was worried about my place while I was at work helping others but other than several 5 gallon pails all over the acreage I haven't noticed and damage yet. I was worried about the roof on the house and all of the coops but they appear fine so far. I hope everyone else is ok.
