This may sound very newbieish, but I am wondering a couple of things. Is there any greens that are not good for chickens from the garden, meaning:

The parsnips have huge leaves, and I cut them off before I bring them to the house to do things with, can they eat these leaves, I don't know that they will, but can they? Are there any greens that are just "not good" for the birds? In the past I have always composted all greens, but because there isn't as much "greenery" around as back in my old life on the south coast, is there something I should not be feeding the birds?

I know that peppers are not good for them (at least I think that is something I remember from the cobwebs of my mind), or am I wrong about that one? I would love to hear comments on these things. Beautiful and wonderful days, CynthiaM.

By the way, gotta sugar baby watermelons coming out my ears, they actually ripened, never was able to grow watermelons, ever....before, can't wait to give them the rinds, bet the eggs are gonna be super sweets, just like the corn that coming on fast and furious!!

I can't remember all the things, but it seems to me that Rhubarb leaves are bad, and as are members of the nightshade family (Peppers, eggplant, tomatoe, and potato, I think.)

I gave beet greens from beets I pulled to the pigs, chickens, turkeys and rabbit, but to be honest. They didn't go over as well as I would have thought. I mentioned it to a friend of mine and she wasn't surprised. She said there was just something in it that the animals don't like (maybe too much iron?) My chickens did eat a bit, and had raspberry colored poo, which scared the kids.

Blah, guess I'll just give them everything that is left over, smiling. I know that plants in the nightshade families are not good for the birds (peppers, potatoes and a few more). My chickens don't like the beet greens, but they go nuts over the beet skins after they are cooked and slipped off the beet. (Why didn't I plant more beets, grrrr...). Never thought that I would use as many beets as we have so far. I haven't in the past used so many, and can't figure out why. Maybe cause we like beets. and oh yes, those pretty pink chicken poopie things are something to behold Smile . I have Swiss chard that has gotten away on me and are like 3 feet tall, I'll have to pick those big ones and give them to the birds, just too much for three families to eat, smiling and I just can't seem to give away enough. Made offers, but no one seems to want them (Farmchiq and Uno, you are a bad girls!!! I bet you both are going to farmers' markets instead of my free market, shame on yous, smiling). (Do you want some chard? some pickling cukes, what is wrong with you? Smiling again). Don't you remember telling me how much you like to use chard for wraps? Have a most beautiful day, CynthiaM.
